i kept my last car for 8 years, i plan on keep this one for longer. I financed it, make no sense to me to put 20k-40k into a car while you can get a loan for 4% or less.

traded a camaro 2ss in for a factory built corvette. financing comes around to be 900/month. have 80k in cash which i sell stock options for premium on companies at or below intrinsic value. generate between 1800 to 3000 per month with the 80k. easily pays for the car. at the end of the financing, i'll have paid off the car with the 80k and kept my 80k.

Senior Engineer here, I was going to buy a new car anyway and was looking at EV or a Hybrid SUV that were in the same price range or more. So this wasn't a financial splurge, and was what I would have paid. This is a "splurge" in that it's way more fun and way less practical than an SUV. It isn't a financial splurge given how it will hold value more than anything else I was looking at. Total cost of the car is about 1/4 of our annual household income. Financed because my investments make 3-4x what the loan interest rate is and the payment is 1/10th monthly income and our debt is low otherwise.

All that is moot since i'm paid mileage for driving to jobsites for work and it will essentially pay for the car anyway.

Honestly, don't think it would have ever happened without an inheritance received. Used 10k plus a 10k trade. So that helped tremendously. Besides a ZL1 (could have, but Dad really would have been rolling in his ashes (he was a frugal man but never got the chance to buy his muscle car he spoke of in his short retirement years before passing)), I needed top of the line. If I was going in, I was going all in with my dream car! Since 16, saying I would own one one day, brand new, with all the bells and whistles.

So really, it's due to an unfortunate battle with cancer. But dedicated to my Dad in that life is too short to wonder, what if... Annnddd I KNOW he would have LOVED it... while slightly strangling me

Without throwing out exact numbers - my payment is under .7% of my income - office manager at one of the top Mazda dealers in the US. Generally ranking #2, we get the #1 spot now & then!

Wow... really?? You are telling me I can get $38k for my car right now? Where was it listed that you found it? Being 100% serious. AutoTrader? If someone is willing to give me $38k for my '16 2SS, come pick it up. You can even have the brand new 1LE Wheels and tires that I just got that are sitting in my garge waiting to go on the car. PM me...! $hit... I'll even go as low as $35k. You can have my 2SS with the brand new MRR 1LE wheels wrapped in the Brand New Continental Extreme Contact DWS06's

Bingo...! I even updated my post and already dropped the price. If I can get that for my 2SS... You bet, I'll sell it and go get me a ZL1 2018 A10 HBM in a heart beat. I am ordering the front splitter next week. I am not 100% on the side skirts just yet. Can't wait to get it all put on the car when I get it out.

I too am shocked by that. No wonder dealers list cars so high. There’s always someone that will pay it it seems. Just have to wait. I really miss the prepandemic pricing days. Even though my cars value would have dropped idc because used zl1’s were so cheap back then.

Most likely his quote of 38k is in Canadian funds, probably not USD.

My jaw is still on the floor. Almost makes me want to put it on AutoTrader and Cars.com for $38k (With the Brand New Wheels) and see what happens.

Ahhhh....!! Good call.. I didn't see he was from Canada... That makes WAY more sense. That's about $27.5k USD

I had a dealer offer me $35k last summer for 16' 2SS convertible. Their "reasoning" was inventory issues, and the thought I'd make a purchase. It's always a catch somewhere. I also only have 9k miles.
