SIXTH GENERATION CAMARO BOWS OUT, CHEVROLET ANNOUNCES FINAL COLLECTOR’S EDITION
Chevrolet Motorsports will continue to compete across the world; Chevrolet announces this is not the final chapter for nameplate.

DETROIT – After nine strong model years in the market, with hundreds of thousands sold, the sixth generation Chevrolet Camaro will retire at the conclusion of model year 2024.The final sixth generation Camaros will come off the assembly line at the Lansing Grand River Assembly Plant in Michigan in January 2024.

Available in coupe and soft-top convertible variants, this latest generation Camaro is known for supreme athleticism and composure. Magnetic Ride Control became available on the Camaro SS in the sixth generation and track-focused 1LE packages proliferated through all levels of the lineup for the first time. The ultimate street-legal track Camaro, the 650 horsepower ZL1 1LE, produced the fastest time for any Camaro around GM’s Milford Road Course at the company’s Milford Proving Ground in Michigan.

Whether it is picking up awards for on-road performance, or race wins and championships at tracks across the world, Camaro has demonstrated Chevrolet’s ability to win in the most demanding environments.

“As we prepare to say goodbye to the current generation Camaro, it is difficult to overstate our gratitude to every Camaro customer, Camaro assembly line employee and race fan,” said Scott Bell, vice president, Global Chevrolet. “While we are not announcing an immediate successor today, rest assured, this is not the end of Camaro’s story.”

C
hevrolet will celebrate this storied nameplate with the addition of the Collector’s Edition package on the 2024 Camaro RS and SS, and on a limited number of ZL1 equipped vehicles available in North America. The Collector’s Edition pays homage to Camaro, resurfacing ties that date back to the development of the first generation Camaro in the 1960s, most notably the program’s initial code name: Panther.

More information on the 2024 Camaro line and Collector’s Edition package will be available closer to the start of orders this summer.

Lol, I could tell that you we’re going to rage by your previous posts. Feel better now

I totally sympathize with you, 1sickzl1. When I was a kid growing up on a dirt road with only an old bicycle to play with, not even were my parents able to buy a car and I dreamed of the Lamborghini Countach, then the Diablo. Little did I know that forty plus years later I'll own a car with a glorious cross-plane crank V8, built on a world class chassis and excellent suspension that easily puts these old supercars to shame.

That said, you and I can't turn back time and neither can anyone else. The writing is on the wall, not just because of the somewhat silly EV hype, I see that only as a catalyst, but because the automobile as a means of transportation is changing drastically. Software has been eating the world for decades, and eventually found its way into vehicles, too. We need something new, cool and exciting to come along while we enjoy the last and best Camaro generation to its fullest. To me, and I'm fully aware this is subjective, EVs are neither cool nor exciting, they are useful appliances with a cool factor that lasts just days or maybe a few weeks.

OMG, nothing is making sense, so that means production is on for 1 month only and that's it, so many mixed messages between GM and GMauthority, somebody need to clarify the information, orders will begin in august 2023, but the production will start in January 2024 and will end in august 2024, like the model year as usual

With Mary Barra at the helm of the sinking ship, she will drive this company to the bottom of the deepest ocean. I've loved Chevrolets all my life, I was brought home as a baby in a '71 Chevy Malibu. I own two Chevrolets right now, but sadly, not much in the GM lineup is going entice me when it's time to replace the daily driver. My toy, the Camaro will be kept as long as I can keep it running.

Even though it pains me to say it because I hate Ford so much, but GM needs to take a look over at Ford and take notes. The new generation Mustang carries on the V-8 tradition, the Maverick hybrids sold out, Broncos still selling faster than they can make them. The F150 a constant best seller, and the smaller Bronco Sport is even selling pretty well. The Raptor versions of the trucks are still selling over MSRP. GM has lost it's mojo, and needs to get back in the game with some affordable, fun vehicles that don't run on Energizer batteries...

I wonder if the Jan 2024 timeline is a typo and supposed to be June 2024. 1/2 a model year doesn’t make sense unless a successor was going to roll out soon after. Otherwise there was no need for a 2024 model at all and they could’ve ended the Camaro with the 2023 MY.

I placed an order for a ZL1 1LE last year and thankfully it is in 3000 status now and will be built. The 6th Gen Camaro is such an amazing car on an amazing platform that still holds up. Sad to see it go.

You're right there's nothing exciting about them. I suppose the best thing is to be happy that we were at least alive to experience what it meant to drive and own one of the best production cars America produced. Gotta see the glass half full and all.

To be fair, the oil companies, tire companies and car manufacturers did this to us. They wanted the interstate highways, they wanted our reliance on fossil fuels. They bought up and destroyed electric trolleys/streetcars that connected much of the continental US in the 20th century.

They stifled research into any alternatives. And look where we are now.
Very true. I live in Downtown Long Beach and I'm told there was an underground subway system that got closed because of corporate greed.

That much is true, my bank account will be much fatter. The Corvette is an amazing vehicle but it's so far off from what I'd consider American muscle or even American sports car. It's a supercar and with it's fancy flat-plane and mid-engine design it reminds me of lots of Euros. Not saying that's a bad thing as one of my dreams cars is a Porsche GT3 RS but it's lost it's American flare so to speak. And the new Mustang? Or should I say the Ford Camaro

They've definitely evolved at a quick rate but that was the joy of it all. Reading a new Motor Trend magazine and reading about all the new tech and how in the hell were they making them faster while being more fuel efficient. That's my whole point. Cars have lost that factor for sure.

Beautifully said and I agree, GM has dropped the ball. The fact that the Camaro is so superior to the Mustang and GM did a shit job advertising it, thus the sales numbers. Then, you have virtually 0 changes to the Camaro after it's been in production since what? 2016? Sure if it ain't broke don't fix it but geez it's like they produced it and that was a wrap.

I would love to see them do what Ford is doing as well but that becomes a leadership and management issue. Lord knows GM has some of the world's best engineers and designers but they can only work on what they're told to sadly.

So Dodge reveals a 1000 hp farewell car that was plastered all over social media and not even 24hr later, gm reveals basically a farewell sticker package and done lol. Pathetic send off and timing gm yet again. And again people wonder why gm can't sell these cars.

I disagree here. The Camaro sells in such small volume that the effort and money spent on a new successor is better spent on a more profitable vehicle in a segment that sells far more volume.

I've had my eye on the 1LE since 2017. It was rumored for a while that the 6th gen was getting cancelled soon, so I'm glad I was able to scoop one up before the end.

I'll keep the car nice, but I bought it to track and autocross, and it shall keep doing those things.

I do wonder if my car will hold it's value a lot better now. Top trim (2SS) + 1LE + Uncommon Color (Rapid Blue) + Manual. That combo will be worth a decent price.
