I went from a C7 Z06 to the ZL1/1LE. Best Decision Ever.
^ Caveat being - my use case is track days and spirited backroad drives. The LT4 is best married to the Alpha chassis of the 6th Gen Camaro. The world class chassis coupled with the explosive firepower of the LT4 is a match made in heaven.

I have had many Corvettes from C2 to C8 in almost all configurations. My last Corvette was a '21 HTC C8. Although the C8 is great in many respects....I missed the manual transmission! Too early to make any comparisons as I only have 32 miles on the ZL1. My miles driving it was from the dealer to my garage (stored for Winter) in January.

I sold my 2010 ZR1 last year and just picked up a 2018 1LE w/track package. I only have about 50 miles behind the wheel of the Camaro but what I've noticed so far is the Camaro is more refined, more assistance. I stalled on a hill with the hill assist was not ready for that. The clutch feels much different (little heavier) and lets out different I don't feel the catch/slip like you do in the Vette. I also think part of the problem is the lazy throttle body in the Camaro. Ill be replacing the factory TB asap. Interior is miles better in the Camaro love the head room (I'm tall and Vette's don't like tall people). love the dash can't wait to learn how to use it all fluently. Vette always stole the show but I think the Camaro is super mean, and aggressive especially in all black. All in all I'm excited for the switch and can't wait to get it on the track and learn the car more. I think it was the right switch only other car I was even considering was a R35 but ridiculous prices and no manual made the choice easy.

Thanks guys for the feedback makes my life easy to decide
Fortunately there was a 2020 Camaro SS1 in manual available for a test drive and i am very impressed with the car, feels very refined and smooth, clutch is little lighter than my GS vette and transmission is way better. Overall i loved it and it looks very good too much better in person than the pics I am placing an order tomorrow for a ZL1 lets see what transpires The car doesnt feel/ look big compared to my vette and i also measured the length of a ZL1 convertible as i have a tight garage , is the convertible and coupe exactly same size? Thanks again for the feedback, appreciate it a lot |

Can you explain why?
I guess I always thought the C7 Z06's were pretty damn good on track and the street. Just curious to hear your feedback going from C7 Z06 to ZL1 1LE! Thanks! Quote:

I have had a 2014 Stingray, a 2015 Stingray Convertible, a 2016 Z06, a 2017 Z07 and a 2020 Stingray. All were nice but my favorites were the Z06 and the 2020. The 2020 was phenomenal but lost the brute force of the Z06. My current ZL1 feels like the Z06 but not quite as nimble but very close
![]() Nothing has handled like the mid-engine Corvette I had but was offered too much money to keep it

I thought the overheating issues with the C7 Z06 were mostly solved qith the cooling updates introduced in the 2017 Z06?
I think they added a secondary radiator that was supposed to help... I never owned a C7 Z06, but they are fast on track! I am curious to see how my ZL1 1LE is going to compare on track this summer! |

Just placed the order for base ZL1 no allocations yet :(
Can someone do me a big favor by measuring the length of the car, i had measured the 2020 SS1 i drove and the length was around 180 inches whereas Edmunds show them as 190 inches I have a tight garage and want to be sure it will fit fine length wise Thanks in advance |

My NA C7 Corvette Z51 felt as fast as my prior 5th gen SC Camaro ZL1, probably is because the Stingray is lighter. Then my 6th gen Camaro SS 6MT felt as strong than my C7 but felt heavier on the back specially if I switched lanes at high speed or while taking a curve fast. The driving impressions of the C7's seating closer to the floor was something else and the fighter jet style cockpit looked awsome. Found that my 5th gen ZL1 and my C7 Stingray were attention getters, but my 6th gen was more discrete but also fun to drive.

I have both a C7 GS A8 and a ZLE 6 speed. The ZLE feels so much more special to drive. I do like the targa top on the vette though, but if I could only have 1 car it would be the Camaro. Build quility feels a lot better too. The Camaro gets a lot more attention from car guys, but regular people basically ignore it, which can be nice.

I have a 17 Grand Sport A8, and a 22 Zl1 A10. Both great cars.
Drove a Z06 before buying the GS new in 2017. Can no longer drive manuals due to hip and knee issues. If I could only have one, from a strictly driving perspective, it would be the Camaro. The Corvette does have an aura about it, and is a great all-around package, but the ZL1 is also more roomy (upfront), has better seats, is super quick, handles great, and is a spectacular package in it's own right. ![]() ![]() And for perspective, I recently got this, but have not yet finalized my opinion.

I agree for the most part with all of the comments posted already. As a track rat I'll add my input since I've spent a LOT of time with C7s on track.
As already stated, the ZL1 will definitely be much easier to drive. The rear is just a lot more planted. The weight of the car adds stability and surprisingly enough it feels like a much lighter car in the corners. As your skills advance, you'll notice the weight when accelerating out of corners relative to other high end performance cars like say the Porsche GT3, GT3RS, 911 Turbo (S), etc. Those cars will pull a few car lengths on you whenever you get on the gas off a corner - it gets worse if it's uphill acceleration. On the flip side, you'll almost always be able to outbrake them. A poster earlier said that maybe some feel the ZL1 is a status downgrade. My experience has been different. Most people I have come across know the difference. The ZL1-1LE gets LOTS of attention. Probably more than the typical C7 Vette which are quite common to see. Having a manual is fun. Never once have I wished for an automatic even while on track. The car is surprisingly easy to drive and in my case has made me appear to be a better driver than I really am. Buy/Trade with confidence. While I do prefer Corvette styling, the fact that the C7 is so common is a bit of a buzzkill for me. The Camaro looks fantastic in its own right. It's not lacking in the aesthetics department. It looks a lot meaner and aggressive than the Corvette and folks start moving out of the fast lane on the highway long before I've gotten up on their bumper. It gets tons of respect.... especially when you uncork it. |
