Angry Purchase of a ZL1

After spending considerable time coordinating the purchase and shipping of a 2023 ZL1, I received the following message:

I spoke with management, unfortunately I would have to be 10k over MSRP on this specific unit.

checked the Law regarding raising price....

What the law says about unfair sales practices
Depending on the circumstances, auto dealers may not just be upsetting their customers by raising their prices; they may actually be breaking the law. Connecticut spells out the rules for fair sales and business practices in Title 42. According to the law:

“Whenever any commodity or service is sold, or is offered, exposed or advertised for sale […] the price shall not be misrepresented, nor shall the price be represented in any manner calculated or tending to mislead or deceive an actual or prospective purchaser.”

Notably, this doesn’t mean that dealers cannot sell above the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP). However, it does mean that if a dealer has advertised a car at a certain price, they are not allowed to raise the price to the buyer.

Finally, the rules for private sales don’t have the same restrictions as those for dealer sales. If you work with a private seller, you don’t have the same protections.

So you’re getting it for the original set price?

I got laid out $5K when my order was actually going to get an allocation and got it @ $1500 but I woulda walked over more than that.
When I had a 21 ZL1 on order I had a written deal in hand when it was at 1100 but who knows how that woulda actually played itself out.
Counter offer and walk if you can't live with it.

contact chevrolet customer service directly and report your experience, or at least threaten this dealer that you are going to

Just walk away and locate another dealer. Pissing off the dealer is going to give you more heartburn than it will them.

Agreed. Go with one of the big Corvette and Camaro dealerships nationally and you won't have to deal with this nonsense.

I take it you didn't get a written price beforehand? When I bought my '21 ZL1 and my '22 Supra I made sure to have signed price agreements before the car even was made (or in my Supra's case, before it was shipped from Europe). Lesson learned for use at the next dealer if this one won't honor a price they previously told you.

I thought I had MSRP then the guy died and everything changed at least to how I understood things to be or were going to be but that was on me. When I had a 21 on order locally I had a deal signed and in hand but never got to see how that was going to play itself out. I failed to do that with the 22 I had on order and then this 23.

I would have walked if they didn't take my $1500 offer.

I tried ordering my Z at a dealership in Phoenix as it is much bigger with better options than Tucson where I'm from. They told me straight up that they charge $10K over sticker price, just for the priveledge of buying the car. I rolled the dice, and walked away. Im not going to pay $82K for a $72K car.

Came back to Tucson, put up my $1K Downpayment to order, and crossed my fingers and waited. Took 3 months, but I got my allocation and my car was built. I just got it last week. The longer you wait to order, the less your odds of getting it. We're up against a timetable with these cars.

Donohoo Chevy never charges over MSRP and I was able to actually get it for $600 below MSRP. 2023 ZL1. They usually have allocations as well.

I searched around on autotrader and was able to find a dealer in Ohio that was willing to sell at MSRP and then found one on here in Illinois that another forum member wasn’t able to pick up after he ordered… They matched my MSRP deal and I got $1750 in rebates.

I got mine for a good bit less than MSRP. Nuts to pay over. I admittedly paid more than I would have earlier, but still less than MSRP, 2 weeks ago.

now we know why they have a handfull of C8's a C8 ZO6 and couple ZL1's in stock. several dealers in the northeast still are trying for above msrp, just got a silverado a few months ago every one i found in NE was at or above msrp and NO ONE was accepting GMS pricing, found one in Michigan that was below msrp and accepted GMS.
Point is keep looking deals are able to be found just be willing to travel or ship car. I put a deposit on truck once price was agreed apon, worked out payment/pickup details after deal locked in.
