Overdosing Techron Cleaner, fan is crazy

Hi guys, I read the Techron Cleaner asks for 1 oz per gallon of fuel so I planed to got in 1 and a half 12 oz bottle of Techron Cleaner.

However, when I was doing this I pour too much. I seemed to add in nearly 2 bottles of Techron Cleaner add top up the tank. So this means I over dose the Techron Cleaner but not more than 1.5. Since even with the 2 full bottle, it is 24 oz, and 1.5 * 19 (tank size) = 28.5oz.

The car runs with everything normal for 30 minutes until I got home and stopped the car. The radiator fan suddenly burst crazy at maximum with crazy sound after I stopped the car with eigine running. After I stopped the eigine, the fan was slower but keeps running for like 10 minutes until it stopped.

Anyone know are these two issues related. How worried should I be.

My original plan was to drive and use 1/4 of the full fuel and then top up the fuel again, which would give me the right dose of Techron Cleaner.
But with the fan thing, I am very worried to start the car.

Sidenote: no eigine light, coolnant level at the bottom just a bit lower than the line.

Any suggestions or comments? Thanks!

2 posts, so I'm wondering if you just bought this 2016.
I do not think the fuel cleaner is related to the fan problem. There are other threads on this fan issue, which usually points to a bad thermostat. What is the temperature gauge doing?

You can drive the car with the fan on high. The main problem associated with this is the fan staying on and draining the battery.

It is possible that this was an isolated incident, and that you ran the car very hot right before you turned the engine off. then the fan kicked on to remove the residual heat. In general, you should let a car warm up before you really jump on it, and you should give the engine a chance to cool a bit before shutting down. the same can be said for any engine.

I would also check the coolant level. there are threads with pictures here. Basically the upper reservoir should be completely full. You add fluid to the lower reservoir which has fill lines stamped on the sides. Fluid is the dexron orange stuff in a 50/50 mix.

Thanks! ctrlz really appreciate the input. i attached the gauge and coolnant so they seem ok.

The fan has been normal now.
my battery has been drained 2 or more times this winter and i used jump starter to start the car.

Maybe the low battery is causing the fan to act Strangely?

If your fan was on high and your temp gauge was at 0, then the computer felt that the engine was running too cool for too long and assumed that there was not enough water in the engine so it does these things to try to keep the engine cool and to get your attention that there is an issue. The most common problem is the thermostat gets stuck slightly open causing the engine to run a little too cool. The other problem could be a bad Engine Coolant Temp sensor. If you have replaced the thermostat with a 160*, that will cause this issue also and will need to be disabled in the tune. If you clear the codes, the gauge and fan will act normal until it happens again.

I do not think that the Techron caused this.

I disconnented the negative terminal of the car and reconnect.
Then with the help of a jump starter I started the car again.
Everything seems normal to me.
The car idled for around 10 minutes and the temps are here

Looks normal to me
The fan is no longer crazy, running but just normal

Could this be a battery issue?

I can’t say from experience but I have heard that these cars do weird things when the battery is on its way out. If you are jump starting the car on cold starts it’s time for a new battery anyway so I would start there. The only thing I will add is that you may have a parasitic drain somewhere causing your battery to drain.

Also, the temp gauge on our cars are just for entertainment purposes. Mine reads about the same as yours but if you read the cars data, it only runs about 155°-160°. Notice how fast the gauge comes up to temp, it's just not accurate.

And if the car sits for weeks or months unused, invest in a battery tender. This is the one I have. There are other options as well.

If this the original battery in a 2016 it is probably time for replacement.
You could check the resting voltage with a voltmeter. But given the recent problems and need to jump the car, I think you have enough reason to replace the battery if it is from 2016. it will only get worse, and recharging is only a temporary fix.

Check your thermostat

My son's 2019 did this, the fan came on, the temp was not up and when he shut it down the fan stayed on for about the same time period. Research around and you may find that your thermostat is stuck open

Thanks a lot guys!
I will replace the battery, it seems not very hard to do so anyway. Costco‘s AGM only costs $198 seems a good deal.

So do you think overdosing Techron cleaner won't harm the eigine so I can use 1/4 of the tank and top up again?
Or I need to had the fuel drained and refill?

You should be fine to just run it and top off.
