170 mph in the 1/2 mile!
My son and I went to the omega event in Gila bend on Sunday and before leaving got a 169.86 mph. Our goal was 170 and we considered it close enough.
In talking with Joe Cordes there he suggested we try using tour mode to help with the traction issues. First pass I went 1.5 mph faster than any previous events though it still had some wheel spin. Thought I’d put it to the test and the next pass went to sport mode that we’ve always used…spun bad and dropped over a mph less. Gained 4 mph through the course of the day, with an extra 1.5 mph with just a 15 minute cool down before we left. Gaining mph during the day has always been something I don’t quite get. Yeah, slightly better traction with temps going from 65 to 80, but theoretically it should be making less power. Strange. But I’ll take it! |

I'm assuming you have some mods since you ran 170. What are those mods and rwhp. Were you trying to run a street tire or drag radial?

Regular ZL1 and running Toyo r8’s.
I think we’re around 850 rwhp as it’ll run over 138mph in the qtr. 9.17 lower, 2.45 upper, LT’s, ported oem blower w/bg, upgraded cam and fuel system, 74%e, tune. Last edited by dbs1; 04-26-2026 at 09:07 PM. |

I'd like to think mine would do 170. I'll look around for an event this summer.
JUNE 10-11, 2023 Airstrip Attack returns to Independence, Kansas for 2023! This is a beautiful small town, and the first and only half mile race in the region.

How they set up the launch will affect your trap speed. I did a Wannagofast 1/2 mile back in the day with my Viper and we launched from a dig with no pavement prep and no burnouts. 1000whp cars were only hitting in the 170s. Other promoters put down VHT and allow burnouts, and some do rolling starts at 40-60mph at the starting line. Much higher traps at those events.

No vht and they give the option of rolling out to some cones at 40mph. Years ago they said just do whatever, so it’s roll a few feet and hit it. No prep on the airport tarmac at all.

I would like to try the half mile run to see what it could do. Have to find something close to Cincy anybody know of one?
