And there is definitely still enough room for them to put it up there as I was able to use the one arpad_m recommended and modified the upper console and mounted it in there. It is a little off to the right from what I would have preferred but still came out pretty nice. Here is the post I have a few more pictures and gave a little run down on how I did it. I have since put a little piece of wood in the gap between the HomeLink and the top of the console that you see in the picture. As it pushed through after being used for awhile since there wasn't any back support just the clips that hold it in.

That looks slick. But as you stated there is definitely enough room up there for Chevy to have kept it there. It is just a cost cutting measure at their end.

At $150+ for the keypad, I will just use an old remote for now until I upgrade the older Craftsman unit to a newer Genie I have laying around which I believe is bluetooth enabled.

iirc, the decision had nothing to do with room. It had to do with being able to connect the rear camera mirror and the additional camera within the Camaros electrical architecture.

I have had most vehicles with homelink and didn't use it. Why? Because they are occasionally parked outside overnight and I don't want someone breaking a window and using the homelink button to gain access to the garage. I use a good ole clicker and when I park outside, I bring the clicker in.

That makes sense. Use the existing harness to power the rearview camera mirror instead of home link. I kinda wish they left the home link on the non camera mirror cars, but I can see why they wouldnt.

The only cars that had Homelink where the 2SS and ZL1. The other trim levels of the Camaro weren't available with Homelink.

Yup, either that or the top open/close switch on the vert. Definitely a space problem in addition to a limitation of the electrical design, as I mentioned above. Anyway, I don't think we'll ever be privy to the actual "inside track", the end result is HomeLink was deleted.

OK, Boomer?
Because having to bring up an app that is not Android Auto/CarPlay compatible, then tapping a soft button on a small screen and relying on a remote/cloud server to open the proper door, potentially while making a left turn into the driveway in traffic is very, very safe and simple...

Fair enough, usually the remote on the car is disabled when power is off. So you would either need to power the car or the remote.

And no alarm on the garage doors? That is an extra layer of protection to the house. I suggest adding it.

The actual implementation Apple does with HomeKit is much better IMO, the downside being you have to have a HomeKit garage door opener and a Home hub setup.

One touch opens/closes the garage and it automatically shows up on the page when you get near your home.

You can buy devices nowadays that connect your garage door opener to your wireless network, then use your phone to open your garage door. I think I paid about $30 for mine a few years ago.

The homelink is hot all the time.

I had them on my home in Florida but you never hear of break-ins through the garage doors. Didn't bother to add them with ADT up here.

Yeah, because I want to be screwing with my phone while making the final turn into the garage and shifting down into first...

There's room on the coupes, but not the convertibles. The overhead area is smaller overall because of the roof itself and then you add in the need for the additional switch to control it...

Here's your answer: The Homelink feature was removed with the 2019 refresh. My workaround is here - https://youtu.be/Hpg8nNOzfmI

Hey, is that you?

I ended up modifying my clip to fit the visor
