Engine Oil Change soon
Hey there! Long time no see (or read).
So I got a ´16 2SS 6MT with now about 55.000 km or roughly 34.000 miles on it. This is the second oil change that I will do myself, as I have bought the car in November 2021. I just now read that there was a change in factory oil fillings somewhere in 2020/2021 from a previous 5W-30 to a 0W-40. So now I got the pain of making a choice between what I want to fill into my engine. I read an amazing thread from TrackCLub from 2020 where there was a nice discussion about oil, but here comes the second problem... I live in Germany. And we don't have access to products from Valvoline, Amsoil and many more (unfortunately). Basically, the only Dexos 2 specified oil from Mobil 1 I can get is the ESP X3 0W-40. Is there a difference between the ESP X3 0W40 and the ESP Formula? Or is this the same oil? Or do you guys have any other oils that you can recommend for my car? Thanks guys, take care Greetings from Germany! |

It doesn't matter. Get whatever you have available and change it regularly. 5k miles max or 3k miles if you run the car hard.

The Mobil 1 ESP X3 0W-40 oil is Dexos2 approved so you are good to go. The only difference between this and the regular ESP 0w-40 is the X3 is approved for vehicles with gasoline particulate filters (whatever that is).

And just FYI: a gasoline particulate filter is a mandatory filter for your emissions. In German, it is called a OPF or Otto Particle Filter, it works kinda similar to a Diesel particle filter which is also common and well known in the US. And yes, every Gasoline car HAS to have one of these things....they suck. Take away sound and restrict your exhaust flow dramatically.... Quote:

I noticed Motul 8100 X-Clean Gen2 5w40 is a 100% synthetic and is DEXOS2 rated. It is selling here in the US for right around $52 for 5 litres.
I've always thought they have good products and perhaps that might be available to you as well.
