Any NASA Rules GURUS here - CHIME IN!!!
Well guys,
I have competed in almost all the groups that are here in my area EXCEPT for NASA so............. The question I have is their classing rules in with the TIME TRIALS are COMPLETELY confusing. They mention the AVG HP numbers that are associated with the different classes and TT1 for example infers that you have up to 740HP. TT2 supposed limit is 540HP. The HP is quoted as being the AVERAGE HP . Well It also says you must upload a DYNO chart with data points every 50 RPM to document your average HP??? So SOMEONE tell me please that is a NASA guru EXACTLY how all of this works???

It works like this, NASA goes by power to weight, so establish that first by going to a shop that has a DYNOJET only. 1. Get a dyno done according to the NASA format here https://nasa-assets.s3.amazonaws.com...m--3-14-22.pdf 2. Find out what modifications you are running and test them out here: https://form.jotform.com/drivenasa/s...ification-form Example: A camaro SS 1LE making ~ 400 HP weighing in at 3800 lbs(minimum weight with driver). Gives you a power factor of 3800/400 = 9.5 lbs per HP. Now by nasa rules if your car is over 3750 lbs you get an adjustment of .50 for your weight. That brings you from 9.5 per HP to 10 per HP, which will place you in TT3. So first find your power to weight, once you have that number apply your adjustments. TT3 is 10 to 1, TT 2 is 8 to 1 etc. Other modifications tthat will make a big difference are tires you run (Hoosier R7, A7 = 0 mod, street tires will give you up to +1.6) For your average HP calculation you can reference this filled out form to see what they mean, from a guy that runs ST3 https://drive.google.com/file/d/1XJU...kq1wXa79f/view You basically take the MAX HP from the 50 increment table, and then go up and down by 250 RPM, 500RPM from that max HP value, use those values to calculate average. Hope I didn't make you more confused. If you reference the google drive link above it will make a lot more sense. Last edited by Christian1LE; 02-28-2023 at 06:31 AM. |

Thanks for the examples Christian!! I think it will just run TT1 because this is why too much of a pain in the ass to calculate.
This complex classing system is what happens when you get a few guys trying to sand bag everybody else to get an unfair advantage. My Opinion is you get BETTER at this driving game if you chasing guys that are QUICKER than you are or at least should be, i cant tell you how much fun it is for me to be quicker than guys than have cars that are 4 to 5 times MORE expensive than mine get shellacked on the track by my MAYBE 75-80K all in my Camaro SS 1LE variant. Caution: Upper Level GM management lecture below (LOL) GM built an ABSOLUTELY awesome platform with our cars and its too bad that GM management could not effectively convey that message to the buying public. They REALLY needed somebody that was a brilliant Marketer like a CARROLL SHELBY. There is a guy that told FERRARI he was going to kick their ass and then did just that. He offered his expertise several times to GM but the GOOF BALLS got way too protective of the status Quo that had been established over the years. "We have ALWAYS done it that way" just DOESNT work anymore. Something can be learned from ANYBODY if you are willing to just damn LISTEN. There is ALWAYS a better mouse trap. Too many times TIMES PRIDE and the sense that you have to protect your little empire at all costs PREVAILS.

I've been running NASA TT3 in Texas at some events. You can skip the dyno, form, etc by running in TTU (unlimited) to try it out. The car will have to pass a NASA inspection. You will need to apply for a TT license and pass a check ride. We will be at Cresson this weekend if you want to check it out and may want to talk to the TT director etc. The TT3 lap record for Cresson is now 16.2. I think the way nasa does it is the most fair. Other TT groups make it harder to be competitive unless you start making major modifications or your car is in the sweetspot. I actually really like the nasa format but it's annoying to get a dyno. |

No problem. The camaro won't fit into the w2w series that Gridlife offers. But if you want competition with an easy rule set, Their Time Attack series is where it's at right now.
