Michigan Camaro owners...

Anyone know if Katech will install an LT2 Intake and TB if I get the part myself?

Because ever since Strictly went under, I've called EVERY place there is in my state, with exception to Katech, and none of them will install 3rd party parts unless I buy from them and pay a 40-50% mark up.

Katech is already 2 times higher than other places that's without factoring 3rd party parts install.

Not looking forward to going out of state, but these people are not giving me a choice at this point.

I know this doesn't answer your question, but it's pretty easy to put on the LT2 IM and bigger throttle body yourself. I put both on my car without any problems, and those were the first mods I did to any car

It's an option if you want to save some money and get more familiar with your engine bay

Yep... That is pretty much the same thing I've found over the years the few times I checked into it. The shops have markups on the parts too and they are not going to give up that income.

I know what a battery is, I know what an intake cover is. I know what plug wires are, I know what spark plugs are, I know what the intake system looks like, I know what the alternator looks like. I still don't know what the difference is between high side and low side catch cans and are both really required, while others say its not.

I am familiar with my engine bay, just not what to do beyond that.

I had to have my pro shop install the plug wire boots on the passenger side because I couldn't get my hand down there.

Its the same if I asked you to replace the the wireless adapter in your laptop.

Its easy to do, but if you didn't work in IT you wouldn't know where to find it, and what to do once you do find it.

Edit: Another thing I thought about, is my car is tuned with my current intake, for flex fuel, even if I do install the intake manifold and TB myself will that screw up my tune, can something break if I do? Last time I knew intake manifolds could be put on stock tunes, but what about E85 flex tunes?

Its like a 1hr job. Not hard at all. What part of Mi you in? I would give ya a hand if needed. Just need to tq intake bolts down etc. You would want a tune to get the max performance out of the intake. OCD racing in Clinton Twp would install it. Talk to Steve.

I don’t think Katech handles outside parts.

Many companies choose to only install parts bought from them, for liability reasons.

Even if the part happens to be an identical part brand name and part number.

We're not really interested in installing customer supplied parts.

99% of the time customers supply incomplete parts, wrong parts, broken parts, parts that don't fit well, parts from vendors we don't typically use, ect.

This ends up wasting time and money for both us and the customer.

Also, we sell all parts at retail. There is no 40-50% mark up.

I agree with your post to some extent. My local Chevy sealer would not install the GM Red Brembo Calipers (same GM Part number they would have purchased) if I brought them in. I had to buy them from them. No there was not a 40-50% markup but they were more expensive then the ones I could buy online and have shipped directly to the dealer. There are shops in my local area that will not install customer supplied OEM parts because they DO mark them up. They've even admitted it to me. So maybe you don't, but that doesn't mean no shop does...

SKU:KAT-G6SS-1

Power Target: 480HP
PRICE
$2749.99
The Stage 3 LT2 Intake and 95mm ZR1 TB is $800.

How much of that is labor and markup?

According to some on these forums it only takes about an hour to install (outside of tuning) Which is generally $500-$800.

$1600 + labor, so 1 hour of labor = $1000?

As I mentioned before KaTech is normally 2 times higher in cost, for the same or less in their packages. Take Livernois for example. Not to mention that package will probably produce less output than an LT2 Intake with 95mm TB and I don't need most of it.

In the end obviously won't install 3rd party parts.

I might be missing the point you're trying ot make, but the package you're referencing is quite different than what you're after -- an intake manifold & throttle body install.

The package you linked includes at minimum:

Rotofab is $500
Ported TB is $375
Thermostat is $80
Wideband O2 Sensor is ~$250
Weld in O2 bung prob $100
Dexcool maybe $50 worth
Dyno Tune say $800

That brings the total in parts alone to over $2k. So on that package, you're probably paying less than $800 for labor (minus labor for O2 bung) and it includes HPTuners credits. It looks pretty fairly priced to me. It is also warrantied for a year.

All that aside, I would seriously encourage you to do the install yourself if you have some basic tools like ratchets, sockets & wrenches. Do a 3-day subscription to ACDelco TDS and save the service manual pages relating to intake manifold & throttle body install. It will guide you every step of the way. Intake manifold & throttle body are a GREAT beginner level job to get your feet wet and learn more about your car.

Pulling the intake on any efi GM small block dating back to the LS1 is easy. Plenty of Info and videos out there on swapping a LT2 manifold on a SS. One thing I did that made removing and installing the intake manifold easier (back in 2017 when I swapped a Pray ported LT1 unit) was rubber band the intake bolts in pairs after you loosen them. It keeps them up and out of the way. Also, the brake booster line can be tricky. Don't just rip it out, push in then pull. You also need a fuel line disconnect too and a Metric socket set.

MOS, The information is out there on how to do about anything these days. You just have to have want to put the effort in doing it.
