Normal DI noises? Is everything good now?

Hi all,

First time Camaro buyer here, 2018 2SS. It’s been a bit of a rough start so far, as I’ve had several issues since purchasing the car a few months ago that needed to be addressed. I first had the A8 shudder (replaced torque converter under warranty, CPO), then had an issue with the Shift to Park module. A couple weeks later I had a misfiring cylinder which turned out to be a bad spark plug wire (40k miles), replaced all wires with MSD. The only issue(?) I have now is a pretty annoying sound in the cabin in V4 mode at constant throttle. I bought a Range device and that helped a lot and made the transmission much smoother.

I’ve taken a couple videos of the engine sound at cold start and at idle. I do hear a high pitched ticking/clicking sound in the engine bay (passenger side), is that the HPFP/normal DI noises? Does everything sound normal now? Hoping that I’m past any major issues and can just enjoy the car now.

Thanks!

to the forums, RustlinJimmi.

I don't know... the ticking feels a bit louder than normal and there is an rpm related scraping noise in the background, too.

There certainly is an expected ticking noise from DI, and it's difficult to tell based on these videos alone, but I don't think mine was doing this back when it was still stock. The cabin, however, has always been free of any ticking on my 2018, that sure isn't expected.

Any chance you can meet other owners and compare before you make the call about more fixes? Also, is the car stock (apart from your new MSD plug wires) and are there any codes stored?

That does sound too loud to me.
I would probably try an oil change, unless you know for certain one was done very recently. You really can't go by the oil life monitor, since the person trading the car can just reset it without doing a thing.

Recordings can be tricky to diagnose, depends on the recording device. But I don't hear anything unusual in comparison to mine. I say just enjoy it.

Thanks for the reply and the welcome! As far as I know, the car is completely stock other than the wires. The only stored codes are history codes for C0800 (PCM low voltage?) and B1325 (another voltage code). I asked the dealer about these last time it was serviced and they didn’t seem concerned, but I’m not entirely convinced. I have a neighbor with a 2020 SS 1LE Manual I can compare to. I’d imagine they should sound pretty similar.

Hi, it’s definitely pretty loud. I believe the oil was changed by the dealer when I first bought the car, but it’s coming up due soon anyway so I might take it in a bit early. Is it worth taking a sample of the oil and doing an oil analysis?

I've come across this as I hear a click sound once every second when I start my car, it then goes away after it warms up.

My clicking sound can be heard most around the 8-10 second mark
