Hi all,

I’m very happy to be back in my ‘22 ZLE. I was really planning on getting a new C8 Z06, but the lack of availability, outrageous price gouging by dealers, and no manual trans sent me back to my ZLE.

I was also a bit concerned about a first year design on the Z06. And sure enough, I’m reading about some Z06 engine failures with very low mileage. For the “at sticker price” difference of about $40k+/- between the Z06 and my ZLE, I feel like I made a very wise choice.

Another bonus is my ‘22 ZLE definitely runs better head to head against how my ‘18 ZLE ran. I really think the ZL1’s are a great deal and worth their cost. Just curious what others are thinking about the Z06 to ZL1 comparison.

There’s no question that the ZL1 1LE provides a lot of “bang for the buck”. However, from a pure track perspective, a high reving, naturally aspirated engine is going to have some distinct advantages over one with forced induction.

I get why you’d go for the ZL1 1LE now instead of waiting for a Z06. The dealer shenanigans are out of control and a real turn-off. But if you spend a lot of time at the track, I think Z06 will ultimately be the better track car just because of the engine.

Local California dealership (won't mention the name) has one on consignment, new owner got it, and now is selling it for 100K over because "that's what the market warrants". I asked him what sticker was and he said 109K +/- and they want 219K for it.....I told them no thanks.

What are the differences you are noticing between your 22 v your 18?

Do you think there have been incremental performance upgrades on the ZL1 1LE since it came out in 18?

I am excited to get mine out on the road!

Glad to have you back, the ZL1/1LE is a great buy, this market is crazy on the C8Z06, If a person can afford one, I don't know if I would race it, will the insurance give you double the value of what the car cost(I don't think so), if it's the msrp can you find another at msrp? Probably not. Now if you could get a C8 Z06 at msrp, and buy a SS 1LE for the track, I think that's a better investment.

My ‘18 ZLE was a great car, but it always ran much lower oil pressure than I thought was reasonable. It was built in the time frame of many of the cars that had oil pump failures. It did not happen to me, but I was always worried that it would at some inappropriate time. It also had an extremely over-rich condition, which always caused a bad off-idle stumble (plus a lot lower gas mileage, though that was not a primary concern). A TM throttle body helped but didn’t completely cure the issue. All else on the ‘18 was fine.

The new ‘22 ZLE runs much cleaner with no off-idle issues. My cruising oil pressure is always at a minimum of 42-44 psi, so much better than the ‘18 which was a high of 31-32psi in like conditions. I like the clean exhaust tips now, not all sooted up all the time. I miss the home link buttons but am happier with the wireless apple car play. I had to buy a Cali car, but I’m not feeling any loss of braking power with the copper free brakes.

I do not and will not track the car. It’s a weekend fun ride for the street. However, it does not feel any less capable as a track car than the ‘18. In fact it would probably best the ‘18 because it runs so much cleaner.

The more I think about it, the happier I get considering these will likely be no more in ‘24. Plus they’re so much better looking than any GT350, GT500 or Redeye of any flavor.

GM should document the changes for customers, if the oil pump has been upgraded, I'd like to see what was changed

I agree. It would be nice to see some internal memos about the oil pump issue on these cars. But GM will never expose that info unless forced to by some relevant legal issue, like a class action suit or a causative death issue. And even then, I’m sure GM will only ever settle such claims with NDA’s attached, to prevent any further litigation.

I took a gamble on my 2nd ZLE after seeing fewer oil pump failures and the outrageous up-pricing on The C8 Z06. As much better as my ‘22 is running over the ‘18, I’m glad I got it. I really missed the ‘18 after I sold it.
