Dealing with the attention

While I wait on allocation for my build, which I'm hoping to hear something soon, there is one thing I find myself thinking about a lot. THE ATTENTION!

I definitely know I'm going to have to learn to be light on the pedal. I live in one of those smaller speed trap towns, so I already know I won't be able to get away with pushing the speed as much as I do in my current DD.

The other thing I am worried about is the attention from other drivers. I have a 42 minute commute to work, which brings me into a larger city close to the Cleveland suburbs, so I will have a few who might want to take a trip to Mexico. Thing is, I have no interest in all that jazz. At 47, those days have long been in the rear view. Don't get me wrong, I want to experience the power and beauty of this car but I really have no interest in the race game. Guess I am just old enough that other things excite me these days. My question is, what have you guys done to tell people you aren't interested? Obviously not looking at them is a clear indicator but curious as to what others have done to tell people to scram. Just curious to hear other peoples stories, as I've never been an attention seeker, so I'm keenly aware that I'm buying the wrong car to blend in with everyone.

Pretty easy really. If you don't want to play, don't. I can't be goated into something I don't want to do.

I never had so many people trying to race me.
My other cars were louder, and one had a 2x4 tunnel ram.
I guess the base model LT1 makes them think it's a 6cyl.
A honda with 3 people tried and I just laughed.
It dang sure isn't worth proving anything to some kids who watched too many fast-N-furious movies and they wind up hurting somebody. Those charges go on you also if it's a race. It is hard to drive a Camaro slow but that's another story. I find an empty road to play.

As you already know looking away works most of the time. But you can also give the cut sign with 4 fingers. So, most people will think it's all dress up as a fast car. Most see the SS an easy stick on, and 4 pipes can be dumbs too. Over here you would never guess how many fake SS or RS Camaros are running around when it's nice out. You know rich child got for good grades or they got out of high school. Slap on all kinds of fake stickers. The 4 cyl. sound really weird with no mufflers. Enjoy the ride.

Before I had kids, all I rode were fast motorcycles. They get attention too, you learn to just ride in your own lane and wave people by. Don't play if you don't wanna get played with.

Another type of attention is gawkers. Girls rarely give a shit, but every man with common sense wanted to see my ducati 999R

From personal experience, I got basically no attention whatsoever in my 2016 SS. I got some stupid comments in general about my 2018 SS 1LE about the "dumb hood wrap" and I got basically nothing but negative attention in my ZL1 1LE from people telling me I was an idiot for putting that big dumb wing on the car and ruining it.

Conversely, my C7 Z06 got either zero attention or people would be gawking at it or taking pictures of it. I think Camaro's are just such an everyday car that no one really bats an eye at it unless you're purposefully bringing attention to it or there are hardly any in your area.

I pay attention to all of the quick cars, though. You never know when someone wants the smoke.

.
That's how you know, they don't know what in the world they are talking about. Some people are all about looks, and they have poor taste to top it off

I live next to someone who modified the exhaust on their 4cyl tacoma. I want a tree to fall on that buzzy little noise maker every time he starts it up.

I've had knuckle heads on the freeway in Mustangs, Challengers and Imports trying to race me in my little 2LS V6. I just wave and laugh.

I was driving my 94 Z28 last summer, and a late 80s-early 90s fox body mustang wanted to play. I tried ignoring him but he wouldn't give up. I finally went, because honestly it had been YEARS since anybody wanted to play. (It was pretty much dead even, but he had a ton of mods.) But I get it, I'm 52 and don't enjoy it as much any more. If ignoring doesn't work, just look at them and shake your head "no" and they'll get the message.

I am the same way, I am not risking a ticket or losing my license to race some shitbox Honda civic. I just smile and shake my head. Now, I drive an LT1 and depending on the situation I may give it a little blurp on throttle just send the message that I could eat your lunch if I really wanted to. Otherwise, take it to the track.

I've owned plenty of attention getters over the years. I've had knuckleheads in the middle of traffic wanting to play. I just smile and wave. Nobody is going to get me to do something stupid. 40 years ago it would have been different. But, times were way different back then. You won't get away with what we did in the 60's and 70's today.

All good stuff fellas...Keep em coming. Thanks. Seems like just smiling and shaking it off seems to work pretty good. I mean if this was the 80's again (man do I miss the 80's), I know I could handle things differently. But it seems like today if you ignore people they want to get in your face more. If you engage politely to say no, they want to engage even more. Such a strange world we live in but I definitely can't wait to get this car.
