So any negatives on the 23 SS models specifically?

Just asking. TIA
Why oil pump worries @ only 17k miles?

Opinions vary as there are plenty. Drive the car and look at the options you want. If going to track the car, go 1LE for sure. For me, I enjoy the iconic SS and features, and wanted to build a better ZL1 with better components, so I started with the 2SS and modding accordingly.

2SS With NPP/MAG RIDE/COPPER FREES/56Z RIMS

You'll be able to bolt on some long tubes/e85/2nd Cat Delete + tune with the money saved by not going ZL1

500HP is more than enough to have some fun on or off the track.

As stated above I feel for the older camaro crowd the SS is just iconic and holds more to its name then the ZL1

Yeah, so my point was that buying a stock 2SS to replace his old ZL1 will definitely feel like a downgrade. The hit can be dampened somewhat by opting for the 2SS 1LE, but there is a huge difference between 455 hp and 650 hp.

Now, if someone doesn't care about that or the slightly better ZL1 parts, sure, after all, I have an SS as well , but horsepower is almost never enough

Slight loss of power? That’s the first and I reckon only time anyone has ever referred to the ZL1 as only slightly more powerful than an SS. 43% more hp and torque is not slight. For comparison, 43% more hp than the ZL1 is 930 hp.

I think you will be plenty happy, with a 23 SS , depending on options you want 1SS or 2SS . I had a 22 1SS low optioned for Drag Raced , I was in for a oil change put in a order for 22 ZL1 , it got picked up as 23 ZL1 , I had too at that point. Good luck. By the way the 22 SS ran 12.17 @ 115 consistently .

Thanks. I wasn’t a fan of the black vinyl with the hash mark on the hood. So I had them removed and the strips put on the hood instead. I also thought the sides needed something to highlight the body lines.

You get a better driving experience on the street with the "down grade". With a ZL1 your almost always spinning tires and STRUGGLING to get the power down. With the stock 6.2 you are in control of the vehicle and can safely push it to the limits on the street and not worry about topping 115 mph in a blink of the eye.

Umm, no. You can’t safely push it to the limits on the street. That’s like trying to fly a Blackbird in a high school gym.

If I buy another Camaro it will be a ZL1 1LE.

If this is true, then why would anyone add performance parts to gain more horsepower on an SS? Enjoy what you have.

There is some truth to it, I only get a few seconds of acceleration before I'm deep into triple digits (hypothetically speaking)... but it's worth it, the acceleration experience alone is a whole different ballpark from even a stock ZL1, let alone a stock SS.

At the same time the car hasn't lost any of its capabilities, I can have fun even driving it slowly, and I can corner even harder since adding several 1LE bits.

Then again, there are no absolutes here, tastes and preferences are different and I'm not saying more horsepower is the way for everyone. In general, though, I'd argue that the sweet spot for most people is above stock SS capabilities.
