Torque App / Alternatives?

I have a basic OBD-II dongle (connect to it via WiFi) and use the free Torque app on my Android phone. I get some basic info, and generally it's fine for the once-a-year time I use it.

I'm trying to collect some additional info out of my truck, though, and the Torque app seems to not have all of the details I'm looking for and I'm wondering if there's another free (or really inexpensive) app that would do better?

Specifically, I'm chasing down a fuel trim issue that has set codes on my truck a couple of times (they clear by themselves after a few drive cycles) and want to be able to see the MAF readings (seems I can see this w/ Torque), Long Term Fuel Trim for both Bank 1 and Bank 2, and the Short Term Fuel Trim for both banks as well.

Torque doesn't show the long-term and only shows one of the short term trackers for the entire bank.

Anyone have any thoughts here that might be worth looking at? Free Android apps to the top of the list.

I'm thinking of getting an OBD-II reader as well, and wondering what the best app to use, too. Android also

I use inCarDoc Pro with my android. I haven't used it to diagnose or explore anything really detailed (mostly I use it for when my friends come over and say "Oh, BTW, while I'm here, my CEL is on, can you help me figure out what's going on?), but it seems pretty capable.

I had seen that one, and it seems it -may- be compatible with the FOSEAL adapter I have, but I can't find anything as to what functions are in the free version OR the paid version. Their web site doesn't seem to offer any useful insight there either. I suppose I could load it and try the free version to see what might show up for options.

I have ODBII with Torque as well, but I have the paid version. That being said, I can't tell you the last time I used it. I wonder if the paid version gives you more data.

I wonder the same... Can't really tell as there's quite a bit already in Torque Lite.

"Track Addict" by HP Tuners. Not only is it a great lap timer, it has a "live monitor" that shows quite a bit of info. Reads AND CLEARS codes as well. It has both short term and long term fuel trim.

Thanks... I'll see if it will work with the connector I currently have.

I've gone through quite a few and this is my current favorite.

"Car Scanner" on Goggle Play Store - logo is blue w white check engine light logo.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...ovz.carscanner

The "free" version lets you have 2 data streams on screen at same time - paid, quite a bunch more. 2 was plenty for me at the time.

It's unfortunate that Android Auto does not allow native apps to show ANY ODB2 type data. Imagine app that gave you display like that on GTR.

Great branding opportunity.. GM Performance App - check vehicle health in real time w customizable gauge you can fine tune on your phone and see LIVE in Android Auto.

I hadn't actually looked at it recently, but this thread got me curious and I went looking, and the app is pretty out of date now; it hasn't had any updates since early 2021. Then I saw it was developed by someone in the Ukraine, and that probably explains it.

No harm in giving the free version a try to see what's in there, but there are other apps out there that are almost certainly more up to date than this one, now.

I recommend my present solution:

Race Chrono app, syncs:
  • GoPro w/ external mic
  • OBD reader
  • GPS transponder
This combination allows me to create videos like this:

Why do I need a GoPro and GPS to read engine info to troubleshoot a diag code?
