Spark plug change with just headers?
What's the consensus on spark plugs on a factory ZL1 when swapping manifolds for headers - are the factory plugs sufficient? I know when I did the pulley and headers on a previous car, I did swap out the spark plugs for obvious reasons.
PS, I did not do a search

I run the Lt4 plugs on my setup instead of the NGK, I would go to a longer plug wire with headers like the ones Speed Engineering make in house that are 12"s long instead of the 10" factory length. Just gives you some extra length to move the wire away from the headers. I would wrap the tubes closest to the starter in header wrap as well as the starter. I don't think the heat shield on the starter will go back on with long tubes. I wrapped mine on my 16ss and never had an issue.

When I did headers on my SS, I made damn sure that the harness was secure away from any possibility of touching the headers. I also put a length of DEI heat insulation around that part of the harness just in case. And yes, stock spark plugs are the way to go. NGK is an OEM supplier to GM so if you put the equivalent NGK plugs in, you would be replacing them with the exact same thing, so no need. |
