Question about oil?

Instead of using 0/40 weight oil, has anyone
Used A 5/40 weight oil instead,on the newer
LT4 motor?

Just use what GM recommends.

I've used the 0-40 recommended oil for the past two track seasons and gotten an oil analysis after each season. Based on a favorable analysis I see ZERO reason to make a change unless you're going to try to be a cheap ass and use Shell Rotella T6...

I’m talking about weight , not manufacture,
I was considering 5/40 for summer because
It’s usually 90-100 degrees!. I’d stick with
0-40 during “Winter “.

Why try to outguess the engineers? They have way more knowledge about engines and oil, than anyone on this site.

Excellent article in the current issue of HR. Definitely stick with what your manual calls out for.

Red Line 5w40 Full Synthetic here, but catless…

If you maintain cats don’t go away from a Dexos2 oil.

Aww, yet another oil thread with almost the same question in the OP

This is true.

What is also true, however, is that they are always forced into a tradeoff with different weights assigned to different parameters (cost, maintenance intervals, engine life, fuel dilution, blowby, carbon deposits and probably a hundred more), so their solution may not be the perfect one for an enthusiast with different priorities.

All in all they have both the advantage of in-depth knowledge/data and the disadvantage of working for a giant money making machine that never allows them to tell the truth and forces them into cost cutting compromises, which gives a valid reason for all these discussions and alternatives to exist.

I might have to add this quote to my signature!

You like oil threads way too much.
