Not to continue harping on it at the expense of sounding like a jerk, but the OP's post along with many others like this is exactly why I don't **** with headers. The extra 20 HP they can give is something I can make up for with driver mod and save on all the headaches it may cause.

Seeing this, and seeing the cost of a high quality set of headers, I wonder - is there any really good modding path on our cars that DOES NOT include doing longtubes? Or, is that pretty much a must-have mod?

I installed 2" ARH headers coated with Swaintech, and first thing I did was reroute the wiring harness just incase it got to hot even with the coating. I have a thread how I moved it on the other side of the reservoir tank. Anyone doing headers spent the extra 20 minutes and move the harness just incase.

Don't let this post stop you from installing headers, there are tons of guys with headers no issues just because a few guys didn't take the extra time or care to reroute the harness.

It's not just that - they're so $$$ and also the car becomes so loud. I'm literally the only young person in my neighborhood and half of my other neighbors drive Teslas (not a joke) and already hate my car

I don't think 1 or 2 bad experiences, which could even be related to installation error, out of the thousands that have headers on these cars warrant such a reaction.

Not a must have mod by any means, but the stock manifolds are a restriction on a stock car and only become more restrictive with added power.

Only cold start will be much louder. Assuming you keep the stock exhaust, whenever the NPP valves are closed, the car sounds close to stock, just a little louder and isn't obnoxious at all. At WOT it will shake mountains for sure, but you won't pull out of the neighborhood at wide open throttle anyway, right?

You could help those Tesla owners practice living and letting live (tell them you can coexist peacefully ).

It's not much louder then stock it done correctly. I have ARH headers long system into suitcase and it sounds great around town and when at WOT it's just right not obnoxious loud it's prefect.

Oh and **** those EV ****ers

Burning plug wires and burning harnesses are not only expensive errors but unnecessary errors that could be avoided entirely by sticking with the OE stuff which were designed to factor that stuff in mind. It might not be the best for performance so I'm not trying to talk anyone out of it, but it's one of those things that's a preference to some who are in the know- how of general mods.

I've owned an OHV engine car with headers before (they came with it) and had to deal with that stuff. No matter what I did or put on them the plug wires would burn and all harnesses/ connectors around the headers became brittle and weak due to the increased heat radiation in the engine bay despite not even coming into contact with them. Yes they were ceramic coated. Eventually I got so sick of messing with the car because of that and other engine related reasons that I just sold it and cut my losses.

That being said, I do appreciate them for what they do and how much flow they open up, but I don't like all the inherent issues that they can and do present, so the reaction has some warrant to it.
