zl1 coolant pump went bad... was it from cavitation?
So a while back I posted on while I was on the track the car began to surge and what not. long story short I got a ADM v2 reservoir and I thought that fixed the issue. ** I haven't really driven it much since this all happened let alone tracked it since. But I also never had the issue since the adm install.
Anywho, took the car to a shop for a tune and pulley upgrade after I installed my headers/exhaust. I get a call a day later saying when they did the inital dyno run, the car was pulling alot of timing and come to find out it was from the SC not cooling down because of air in the system. They tested the pump and it was dead. I had them replace it while the work was getting done. My question is, was it possible that during that 1 track day, that pretty much made the pump go out? Is this a part known to go out more often than other parts? I'm new to the zl1/lt4 so I'm just trying to understand what caused the failure. **car has 7k miles on it. The most common problem is a little air in the SC intercooler system, which causes it to pull timing. A reservoir usually bleeds the system and prevents it from reoccurring. This is the first post I’ve seen about a pump failure though. I’d say it isn’t as common as air in the cooling circuit

Sorry, I did edit the post. I should have said it was pulling timing cause of air in the system. When they ran the pump, that is when the noticed the pump wasn't working. |

Haven’t seen any bad pump threads. I’d see if the problem returns after a new pump. At least they found a likely culprit.

I have seen a mention of a failing pump before but the failure rate is super low. Not very common it happens so just know that you shouldn't have an issue with it again at this point.

The car is done getting tuned and the shop called me. obviously car is running great now. He even said this was only the 2nd pump he's seen go bad since the lt4s came out. I am just glad they caught it and were able to fix it. Not really eanting an extra bill but rather it go out while at the shop. It would figure id get 1 of those 1 in a million bad pumps. Haha |
