Cost to replace chassis wiring harness/burned from header ::solved::
Anyone have any guesses what labor would be?
I need to get my harness repaired or replaced. Thinking repairing it would be much much less. I have like 10-12 wires that need to be replaced that I can see so far. Got burned by my long tubes. Need a trust worthy place to repair I think. Last edited by stormtrooperSS1le; 11-05-2022 at 10:59 AM. |

To do the job correctly you have to pull the front bumper off to replace the entire harness because the ambient air temperature sensor that controls your AC/HEATING system is inaccessible otherwise. There are literally hundreds of wires in that harness all color coded.

Thanks for your input man I was thinking roughly the same 1k-1500 and 7-8 hours labor.
Would you let an independent shop do it or just dealer? I can’t imagine repairing every wire in that damaged harness. There are so many of them and I’m sure some are damaged where I can’t see in that loom. Some are melted together some are completely frayed and separated already and it’s probably a good 10-15 words I can see that need repair. Don’t want to spend time repairing when like you said a year later it starts acting up. |

You wouldn’t happen to have a walk through some where of this replacement or know where to look for this? I found a harness on eBay from a zl1 for 200-300$ depending on seller. Pictures of wiring harnesses are one of my most feared things in life but I may try to overcome my fears.

Our old friend YOUTUBE no doubt probably has some sort of installation video on the harness I would bet.

I will ask around at some shops locally and the guy who built my Camaro but he’s about an hour and a half away.
Hopefully no sensors got taken out but I bet a few did. A lot of that harness is melted together. I’ll check around you tube or a wiring schematic from Chevy for this harness. |

Sounds like you will also need to do something to the new harness to keep it from happening again I'd assume? When you said header, I am assuming you put in an aftermarket header, which is what caused the problem to begin with? |

Yea a simple zip tie to the frame would have prevented this whole thing.
