Anyone using the MBRP axle back? ‘18 SS
Just picked up my ‘18 2SS It’s all stock, just shy of 21k on the odometer.
On a budget like many these days, got about $500 to spend on exhaust. Looking at this kit full stainless cat back I saw some videos on YouTube and it has the sound I’m looking for, sounds aggressive but not over the top https://mbrpexhauststore.com/3-dual-...-ss-2016-2021/ Also if anyone can recommend a CAI that actually works for $0-400 And what tuners are you all using? I don’t know if the Camaro computers are locked or not, and if they can take a tune without having to get a new PCM Thanks! |

First of all, congratulations on scoring a fantastic car
A muffler delete will sound very raw and loud, but not refined. MBRP exhausts are cost effective, but they drone badly in the cabin at low rpms according to many, so I for one wouldn't go in that direction (just check out exhaust threads here). I have the "non-big gulp" version of the Roto-Fab CAI, it looks the best, enhances intake sound and is proven to add at least a few hp. The GM CAI upgrade that is essentially the same as the Cold Air Inductions unit is window dressing only, if you prefer a closed airbox to an open one. Not sure about other CAI options as I haven't tested them, but in general there isn't too much to gain from an intake and nothing else, it is only helpful when combined with other mods to eliminate bottlenecks across the board. The engine control module (ECM) is not locked on your 2018, however, the transmission control module (TCM) is, but the protection can be brute forced in a matter of hours (and HP Tuners will do it for you). That said, whichever tuning platform you choose, you'll have to pay up for the device and/or ECM / TCM / FSCM tuning capability, so it isn't free or particularly cheap but completely doable, a well trodden path.

Thanks for the response and advice! I’ve been watching some YouTube videos on exhaust so I’ve yet to decide what to do.

I have the MBRP axle back on my 23 ZL1 and it's great, perfectly fine. It's very loud but then not quite as loud as I thought it could be given that it's basically a muffler delete with a resonator to control the drone. The aluminized version is just about the most cost effective solution on the market.

I run the stainless MBRP on my '17 SS, sounds better than NPP did that's for sure. It's pretty loud, but keep in mind it's on an otherwise stock car. If you want to make it louder gotta look into headers which will require a tune.

I run the MBRP axleback on my ZLE and I think it sounds pretty good. I do a lot of highway driving cruising between 70 - 80 mph and don't hear in drone. It gives the car a more deep, raw, muscle car sound without being obnoxiously loud.

For $500, I am very satisfied with the SS MBRP axle-backs. NPP was way too quiet and docile. Axleback makes it justttt right. Sure it drones a little, but it also didn't cost me $1500-$2000
