Good lord, I’ve spent enough time driving in NY/NJ to know. Heck ice balls on the highway would tear off the front air stabilizer… having more than 100 hp isn’t needed to go 5 miles an hour 75% of the time, and I noticed tons of cars with rubber pads front and back….I guess for parking garages….
If I had a vert and two Harley’s, it would be to drive away from that town…
Made me laugh when you said you had to put seat back to get out and your 5’8”
I’m 6’5”, and thankfully I have a vert because climbing out with the top up, makes my wife laugh….but with the top down, I’m like Bo Duke jumping in to start er up…
True. I hate driving the Camaro out there on a Saturday. Too much sand blast from other vehicles. Pot holes that will destroy suspension components.
I wont drive the bike out there at night at all. Theres longitudinal potholes following seems between lanes that you might not see in the dark... nothing like changing lanes through a 6" wide 30' long 6" deep crevasse..
I once hit a long smooth pothole repair that was slippery and shaped like a giant spoon... going 75 surrounded by traffic... never even saw it and suddenly Im airborne and turned a bit sideways like I was dirt riding on a thousand pound bike. If you fall out there they will never be capable of avoiding you...
Well be out of here soon. Sad commentary...living in one of the nicest places in the country... Hunterdon Cnty is kind of like Kentucky... With horse farms and then the beaches are like SC... Pine Barrens...
Born and raised here for 66 years... And I cant get the F out of here fast enough. Took too long already.. Been leaving since I was 18...

I tried hard to buy a ZL1 in ‘21, and just couldn’t find one in NTX. I went with a ‘21 2SS A10. Loved the car. It was a spirited drive and a really good ride. No complaints. It was fun.

I finally found a ‘22 ZL1 this summer and made the trade. It’s a bigger blast to drive. The 2SS was a great drive, but the ZL1 is heads above it. Im glad I kept looking.

If you want to drive out to Canton, I’ll be glad to give you a spirited drive.

I appreciate all the responses!

I'm about 90% sure I'm going with the 2SS manual convertible.

Found an out of state dealer (through this forum - thanks!) that claims plenty of allocation and straight MSRP pricing.

Looking at Shadow Gray Metallic with Adrenaline Red Interior, Black Rally Stripes, Standard Wheels, Red Calipers, Dual Mode Exhaust, Magnetic Ride Control.

Considering the 2nd Gen Splitter (Satin Black) and Rocker Moldings to go along with Satin Black Spoiler and Side Mirrors. Around $2K for the package.

I really like the splitter and rocker moldings on the ZL1 - don't know if these are similar or even recommended as 2SS OEM parts by members of this forum.

Any feedback on this build list would be appreciated!

That would be a nice choice, and about 25k in your pocket. If the $$$ are not apart of your dicision, then there still a 10% chance you may go with the ZL1. Good luck

ZL1 for sure. It's about 2.5 seconds slower on 0-60 than my other Camaro. But it gets the fix done. 65 years old and still working.

You can get a 1LE splitter from gm or go aftermarket for an even more aggressive, ZL1 style one.

If you also want ZL1 style side skirts (rocker moldings), you again have two options, essentially: one, you can replace the entire rocker panel with a ZL1 kit that has the side skirts integrated, in which case you'll have to adjust the front fenders or the skirts to fit an SS, because the ZL1 has wider fenders; two, you can go aftermarket, as gm ground effect offerings for the SS look different and in my opinion much less appealing. I bought my side skirts from C7 Carbon, they are a perfect fit for the SS and look exactly the same as its OEM ZL1 counterparts.

The C7 Carbon parts look pretty good! Nice install/review videos on YouTube. Going to go this route, I think. Thanks for the heads up!

If anyone's interested in what tipped me towards the 2SS Convertible over the highly desirable supercharged ZL1 - it was a couple of things.

1.) This YouTube video -
convinced me that the 2SS convertible fit what I was looking for in a sports car that's not going to be tracked.

2.) Aesthetics - not a big fan of Alcantara. I prefer traditional leather.

I lived at the Lake for 13 years and lots of places and curvy roads for spirited driving. I would personally find a 2SS or Zl1, verts are not for me but lots of guys/gals like you want one for the top down experience. Good luck on your choice. I'm assuming you spent some time at the Lake since you decided to move there. Good luck on the move also.

First off, I'm 59 years old and heading towards retirement.

My script always said, when you have time to enjoy it (retirement) - you'll buy a Corvette and that's it.

Well - times change. Although I appreciate the new Corvette, it's definitely outgrown my tastes. It seems to me that the Corvette is now more of a European Super Car than an American sports car. I want an authentic American sports car.

An Authentic American Sports car is now (in my mind - sorry Dodge) the Camaro or the Mustang.

I'm not going to ask anybody on this forum what they think about the Mustang - I can get that from a Mustang Forum.

What I'm looking for is some dialog on two different versions of Camaro's that I have configured.

Before - anyone says - "it's your car - just buy what you want" - I appreciate it - but that's not dialog. I'm looking for folks who share interests and want to swap ideas.

I'm an admitted car idiot - I've driven trucks and SUV's all my life. However, I do like fast motorcycles - I currently own a BMW K1600 and a FJR1300. I didn't know anything about motorcycles before I jumped into a FJR forum years ago. I learn fast.

Generally, here's my two builds - totally different for sure:

Build 1: $61K
White Convertible 2SS - Every Option

Build 2: $73K
Shadow Grey Metallic ZL1 - Every Option

Will I ever track the car - hell no.

Will I drive the car in a very spirited manner - hell yes. Just like the motorcycles - when it's just me at risk and I learn the cars limits.

Let me know what you think.
If I were in your shoes I'd go ZL1 vert manual.
Have you considered going on a car rental site like Turo? You can rent the car and put it through its paces to see if its really for you. All types of cars, high and low-end, manual and auto on Turo.

There are definitely a few cars Ive owned over the years I would have passed on if I just could have rented for a few days...
