Oil Catch Can

Is an aftermarket oil catch can a necessity for the V8 Camaros? What brand do you recommend? I basically understand the concept of one, so why doesn't GM make this a standard feature (besides the $$$ issue)? Thanks for any comments/responses

Welcome aboard and with a little searching there are many threads on this subject I run the Mishimoto on mine and bekieve it helps. But it is your car, and your decision

I wouldn't say that a catch can is a necessity, although lots of folks have them. The way I look at it is that it can't hurt. And its a pretty easy install. I have a Mishimoto catch can on my 1LE. My Camaro is the third car I've installed a Mishimoto oil catch can on. Excellent quality product.

Mishimoto is nice but the can volume is relatively small. I had a Mishimoto on a LS3 car, I went with UPR for this car.

If you have to worry about the volume of oil blow by being more than what the catch can will hold, then the engine likely has other issues. I recommend dumping the catch can at each oil change.

No, not required or needed.

If the engine needed that type of device it would have one already.

Those in cooler climates may want to check smaller cans more frequently due to condensation.

I dump mine at every oil change and have never had a problem of it being overfull. And I commute 65 Plus miles a day 5 days a week.

I’m not a catch can believer, at least for the stock set up and normal driving. With that said, I know you’re going to drive your car as much as you can in the winter. Just a heads up that having a can is a major pain in the neck, as there’s way more condensate and it will freeze once the engine is shut down. I haven’t experienced this myself… but if I remember correctly, another member installed one and ended up pulling it off (drives all year long, including winter). Just something to think about… good luck either way.
