Announcement for Ending Camaro Production, 4th Gen
Anybody remember how much notice was given when 2002 was announced as the last year for Camaro? Sounds like from some posts on here it was at least a year out.

Yeah I think it was know at least prior to the final model years production perhaps even longer. I imagine 2023 will almost definitely not be the final year of the 6th gen Camaro. Feel pretty confident GM would have already announced if it was.

Not sure exactly where you're going with this question and I don't have recollection, but that was over 20 years ago. GM and the industry have changed so much in the meantime I doubt you can glean any conclusion about product timing from events two decades ago. There’s not a formal process for making the announcement relative to the calendar or the production schedule. For instance, when it was announced that the Cruze would cease production, it was within the production’s current model year. The announcement was made at the end of November, 2018 and the last one was built March of 2019, a little over 3 months later. Even if GM said 2024 is the last model year for Camaro (as is the most prevalent rumor), they could pull the plug tomorrow if market conditions warrant it or it might lumber on until they're able to satisfy lingering demand...
It’d be foolish to think that because no announcement has been made, that production is “safe” for any defined period of time in reference to those past events. |

GM really didn't do anything specially for the '02 camaro. The Trans Am for that special edition yellow and blue paint. But there wasn't any special options or add one. Sadly it seems like the same fate is destined for the camaro again.

They did have the Z4C 35th anniversary RPO, but like mentioned previously this is a far different time. The race to watt power is on and GM is determined to win it seems.

I can see where GM extends the 2023 model year till September, and announce the end in March 2023 for any final editions.

In this case, the (distant) past is no longer a good predictor of the future, given how much the company has changed in the last 1-2 decades, which has already been noted above.
A more recent trend is gm giving absolutely zero attention and thought to the Camaro, so unless an old school cowboy inside the company can (or rather, could) muster up the clout to push a meaningful farewell edition through, I foresee a simple 2-paragraph announcement of ending Camaro production followed by 3-4 paragraphs touting the bright EV future, or at best a custom decal and paint color combo edition.

Maybe they will have a quiet low decibel edition in automatic only to help transition you into the ev future.

I seen a GM commercial last night touting their EV lineup. My best guess is the 2024 "Camaro" if it exists is something similar to what Ford did to the EV Mustang. I personally don't see why GM would do this though as they already have the Blazer. I think 2023 will be the last year of our ICE Camaros. Just my best guess.

On the truck side, the Ultium BET replaces the T2 and 31XX platforms and will house vehicles from the size of Colorado / Canyon up to the gargantuan Hummer EV that launched the platform.
