What parts to PPF on a new 1LE?
Just wondering where folks generally want PPF on the 1LEs. Obviously the front of the car, but do folks do it on the wrapped hood to protect it? I've heard the wide tires kick up rocks, do folks do PPF on the rockers or elsewhere?
Thanks |

Mine isn't a 1LE, but this is where I did PPF, 7,000+ miles, no rock chips...

If you don't do the entire car, rocks will find any area you choose to leave unprotected, be it the roof, the A pillar, side rockers, quarter panel, even the rear bumper.
For example, I already have two (very small) chips on the edge of the roof where it meets the windshield and one on the pass side A pillar, two panels I did not get wrapped in PPF.

I did the entire car in xpel ppf. Then wrapped the roof and trunk to match the hood, then did those parts in xpel stealth

It was a couple years ago but I think it was around $1600 including ceramic coating...

I agree with 2SS Capt but with the vert I added the windshield frame. He used a single piece (no seams!) and the installer cut the small patterns from the middle.
Key learnings from experience: * Make sure you have the installer oversize the patterns so they wrap and tuck all the edges. * If you can afford the whole car, do it. Wish I did, because the square rump end collects a lot of grit. * Installer matters more than brand of film. * Paint correction prior to film application is important. * Include door cups if you daily the car. * Badge removal and replacement as needed (no holes!). * The Camaro is a sunnofab!tch to film, make sure the installer has done them before. |

Should add the A-pillars and front portion of the roof. XPEL sells a precut piece for this portion and it can be front 1/4 (partial) roof or whole roof. The whole roof seemed too hard to DIY so I did the partial.

2SS Capt, you are (or were ) incredibly lucky that you haven't taken a chipping rock hit at or near the front edge of the roof. In other words, it's only a matter of time.

Yeah, I know... I leave a LOT of space between me and the vehicles in front of me and I try to follow cars that sit low and/or have skinny tires, if a truck gets in front of me I'll change lanes...

I have a ‘23 2SS on order. I have Xpel on all my cars full front end and full hood but never did the roof. My 2020 Acura RLX now has about half a dozen chips on the roof forward of the sunroof. Most happened on coarse secondary roads in Florida and portions of I95 in South Carolina that are in horrible condition. I often drive between Va and Florida. I95 in SC is a flying rock/chipped coarse asphalt disaster. At least the southbound lanes look like recent repaving. The northbound is the big problem. I will not be driving the Camaro or my Corvette to Florida until SC repairs 95.
My Acura is 29 months old and I put 71k miles on it. The bumper fascia and hood have some rock/road rash battle scars but very few that have pierced the film. My installer did use the heaviest gauge Xpel on the front fascia. It still gets gouges but nothing like my high mile cars did prior to Xpel. |

I did everything you have in red + the A-Pillars. It was around 1400, and I have seams at the edges of each panel. You cannot really see them, but can feel them when washing. Granted it's a white car. Happy so far, but it's not a daily.
