Well, I just bought my ss last year, so I never want to touch my headers cuz of the warranty, but yesterday a V6 just rev next to me and even louder than my v8. i guess its time to look up the headers LMAO, a few questions hopefully people can help me answer:
1. difference between kooks 1-7/8 and 2 headers or other recommendations? 2. do I need a tune(necessary?) and how much 3. difference between cats no cats Thank you for your time and help |

1) Its a matter of inches lol but some say they make more power with 2 some say they lose power. I have 1-7/8 and i haven't had any issues or power loss with it. 2) Yes tune is always necessary with adding headers..you car will start and you can drive it but it will hurt the engine long run. Tune can run anywhere between 500-1500. Depending on if you doing a remote tune or not. My tune on my last car was 1500 which included trans tune, e85 tune, hp tuner credits and dyno tune. 3)cats reduce the smell outside the car and shave the noise down a tad but not much. Catless you can smell your exhaust and usually louder. Some gets cats due to emissions in their state.

to answer the ops questions: bigger headers make more power tune is not necessary but headers without cats will result in a CEL. headers with cats will not have a CEL. running either one without a tune will not hurt the engine, but will also offer 0 hp gain. cats will make the car quieter and smell better on gasoline

If it's just the sound you are after install an axle back exhaust and call it a day. No retune will be necessary and you keep your warranty.

If you want louder go Corsa Extreme or Botla ATAK (or the NPP versions). Both are loud just different tones, Corsa has the muscle car rumble, Borla is more of the straight loud.

I have MBRP axle back now, but since headers add free hp with better flow and sound, it seems a good choice,,, but I just don't wanna void my warranty

I've no experience with warranty claims, though.

i still do not understand why anyone would spend the time and money on those parts, only to utilize the factory tune and ultimately end up with a car that still performs at a stock power level. *he bought the car with those mods.
