Yeah, with the sunglasses that let him see aliens. For a B grade movie it was actually pretty good.

Anyway, you can go to the DOI for the passage that defines our current state of affairs:

"Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security."

The history books compress time and forget the little day-to-day stuff. I am sure minor incidents happened after the Stamp Act or The Boston Tea Party that time has forgot. We, on the other hand, are watching a replay first hand in slow motion.

And, that old adage of "The more it changes, the more it stays the same". Some Americans were for the crown, others just wanted to "go along to get along", and then the "traitorous rebels". Much like we see today.

I think I read it was am estimated 10% of Americans that pushed for independence.
I was actually thinking World History not so much American History. Pol Pot, Stalin and Mao to name a few.

Your point does have merit however it is totally invalid because everyone knows Washington drove a Challenger when he fought the British.

Right now the things that are being regulated out of existence don't matter much to many people, but trust me, eventually they will get to something you do care about. Meat, or the ability to set your thermostat yourself, or what you're allowed to watch. All those are already being talked about as potential 'bad things', and more.
Truth!

The whole A/C and refrigerant thing...

Originally, CFC's were deemed "bad" (whether you agree or not, different story). The new "ozone safe" refrigerants came out, but were more expensive.

Solution? Government mandated production cuts to skew the market and raise the price. They also added a tax to increase the cost.

This way, it became uneconomical to repair old equipment.
Now that everyone has the new "ozone safe freon" A/C units, they have decided that this new stuff is causing Global Warming.

So, now the government is going to ban THAT freon. Prices are already climbing and we are now going thru that whole cycle again.

All the factories are clearing out old stock because they can't be sold after Jan 1, which means we are currently experiencing shortages. Carrier told me they had one particular commercial unit in stock in the state and it would be about 28 weeks (plus shipping time) for restock.

The other thing that's going to be exciting? The government has mandated 95% efficiency furnaces as the minimum allowed to be produced.

Sounds great on the surface...

Except the 80-90% furnaces use a metal flue pipe. 95% use plastic. Can you imagine what the bill will be to convert your 2 story (or basement) flue pipe from the unit to the roof?

Walls have be cut and patched, the installation of the flue, AND the cost of the very expensive unit.

The other option is a heat pump, (which is really the goal in all this), except that will cost you 1-1.5x (or more) than your A/C bill. All the while, you get "cool air" from your vent.

So, ya, Wyzz Kydd is spot on with his comment.

But not really paranoia, just situational awareness.

FFS this thread devolved so quickly. I'm confident that had to be the goal of the OP. How difficult it is for true civil discourse these days. It appears more prudent that people's need to win an argument usurps the application of empathy and perspective towards the person or people of the opposing view. Instead, we resort to ad hominem attacks and school yard insults to bolster our sense of self-righteousness.

Same here. I'm also glad I was raised in an environment that emphasizes personal responsibility and accountability instead of just blaming everything on the government, POC, globalist conspiracies, Jewish Space Lasers, etc.

When someone fulfills a campaign promise I don't see how that's 'blaming everything on the government'. The whole premise of this thread is about two politicians who made campaign promises and then followed through. I haven't heard anything about POC or any of that other stuff. It would be cool if the Israelis had space lasers though!

I'm picking up what you're layin' down. There is less than an inch difference why they got away with it and the British didn't....

Most likely as the results are predictable.

I would disagree completely. This discourse has been quite civil and I didn’t see any real name calling. Spirited debate should be welcome . Disagreeing is not being uncivil. Difference of opinion is not uncivil. We all love Camaros but can agree to disagree on politics. Real simple.
