LT5 vs Soler 91 TB
I have a throttle body question. I currently have a ported Soler 91MM throttle body on my car and I’m putting together the JRE 125 package and that typically comes with the LT5 throttle body. Would I benefit from swapping out the Soler TB to the LT5 TB? Thanks

I would definitely suggest the LT5 over a ported stock TB. Anything you can do to lower inlet restriction helps your blower efficiency.

Is the inlet on the Lt4 big enough for the Lt5 TB or does it need the adapter? I've used the Lt5 with the adapter and without by elongating the bolt holes to match the Lt1/Lt4 snout holes. I'm currently running the Lt5 with an adapter on my ported Lt2 intake but trying to figure out what I'm going to run on my 2300 Maggie. I bought another Pray ported 87/91mm that I'm also thinking about using till I can find a 103 snout which are really hard to find right now. I agree with Josh you can never really get to much air and restrictions just kill hp.

I sort of have this issue as well, I have a solar ported lt5 throttle body leftover from my last car, but even with a tune it's next to useless until the blower gets ported from my understanding. I say get it ported and use a ported solar lt5 tb as well, as long as you don't plan on upgrading the supercharger anytime soon. That's my plan at least.

You do not need the whole blower ported. Just open up the inlet a bit to match the TB.

Oh, I did not think about that. As long as you can port it yourself though right? Is it tough?

Not exactly rocket science and hardly a difficult “mod”, so I’m sure it’s some you could do yourself if you wanted to. Or, if you’re having a performance shop do work for you, I’m sure they could help you.

I’d probably put the 95mm gasket up to the snout and mark it off so you know how big to make the hole. Then stuff a rag into the snout right behind the opening, setup a vacuum hose next to where you’re porting and leave it on, then carefully open it up with a die grinder or dremel. A bit of grease on the die grinder bit will help it grab metal flakes. Then carefully pull the rag out and let the vacuum suck up the metal chips. I’d take a clean rag sprayed with brake cleaner to the snout to degrease and wipe up any residual dust when you’re done. Just my thoughts on how I’d approach it but I was lucky that the Whipple has a 112mm opening right out of the box lol.

There are adapters for the LT5 TB, too, that just clock the TB off OEM. It's relatively inexpensive, but works great. It pushes the TB out far enough the blade doesn't hit the inner mouth of the snout. Nice ones are tapered from 95mm to like 87mm, too, so the transition is as nice as it's going to get. If I missed that somewhere - my apologies.
I'm with Josh' on the inlet restrictions. I also agree that maybe a 95mm on an un-ported 1740 might be much. But - if you're anything like me, I look toward possible future mods', and don't spend money twice, unless it's necessary. If you think you're ever going to port the 1740, I'd say wait, and go straight for a 103. If you know you're never porting - then stay with one of these options. With the gains from porting recently, it's almost silly not to do it, IMO. It's not cheap, but is a great option to increase efficiency.

On my '14, I had the stock TB and plain Roto-fab, and swapped them for a NW103 and a Big Gulp. I used a spacer that transitioned down to the unported snout. Porting the blower and a set of heads was next on my list. I like to do it in small pieces- keeps me busy as one of my hobbies.
In my case, I picked up about 15 at the wheels, and you could see the difference from 5500 to redline, even with the unported blower. Cylinder airmass was greater, and you could also see where boost started to climb from that area up to redline, indicating it was getting more air in than it used to (boost used to be a flat line near redline). Sure, it was highlighting a restriction downstream from the blower now, but that was new... didn't do that with the stock TB and "plain" rotofab. So, I'm all for going big in front of the blower! There is a point where it doesn't make an appreciable difference anymore, but that's subjective to each person, I guess. Look at Katech_Zach putting a 120mm on his 1000hp project, expecting another 20 hp over a 112. I'd probably keep the 112 if it were me at this level. BUT- if I was planning to get to that level, and this was the first TB I was buying... I'd get that 120 for the future and make the f'er fit in the meantime. LOL

The OEM TB will make around 800 whp, maybe more. How much does yours make?
