Power Gains Of This Cam?

I really hope I'm not being annoying...I'm just trying to get educated by asking questions lol.

I found out what cam was placed in my ZL1.

It's texas speeds LT1/LT4 "SV" (stock vert) cam.

According to the card that came in the box...it shows no additional fuel lobe.

I contacted the shop who did the work and they swear they did a 10% lobe but the card definitely doesn't back them up. They said they've reached out to texas speed for clarification but haven't heard back. I'm gonna probably call texas speed myself tomorrow and find out for myself.

So now 2 questions.

Has anyone here ever had that cam ran in their ZL1, and if so, how much power did you gain? I can't find anything exact in the product description like you can for the other stages.

2, why would a shop use this weak ass cam in a ZL1 when the goal is 700whp?

Probably because you can achieve 700whp with the stock cam.

Hopefully it has the fuel lobe. That’s a whole lot of labor replacing it to not have the fuel lobe upgrade. I’d be severely pissed at that shop.

Well That's a waste!

For others here the cam fuel lobe specs:


fuel lobes, why mess around just do the largest one possible and bite the bullet for the 1700 to 1800 LPE/XDI pump. If you sell your LT4 pump to a LT1 owners your barely out 1000 bucks for up to 40% more fuel when spaced correctly!


FUEL TRI LOBES ONLY:

Stock LT1 fuel pump lobe size 5.70 MM
Stock LT4 fuel pump lobe size 6.00 MM
Most Places like TSP, Vengeance, BTR,, ect.. 6.5MM 32%
Lingenfelter GT31 L210316914 fuel pump lobe 6.5 MM 32%
Lingenfelter GT35 L210200215 fuel pump lobe 6.5 MM 32%
Lingenfelter GT35 L210287515 fuel pump lobe 7.85 MM 38%
Lingenfelter GT31 L210356914 fuel pump lobe 8.20 MM 42% requires LPE or XDI Big Bore Pump

See this mistake all to often!

* TSP cuts there own cams but 99% of the other shops use comp cams just ask the TECH there to use a similar spec cam they have there records and can cut with a 38% lobe or ask your speed shop to cut it with a 38% if you do the pump from LPE/XDI you can go 42% Rynne C BRC Raceworks has a 43% I believe.

Believe me. I definitely am, and it took them a month to do all this initially. Will be calling texas speed in a little bit to see if I can track down exactly what was ordered. If there's no lobe, I will be seeking some sort of refund from this shop.

Even a 10% lobe is for NA stuff. If your are getting a cam for a FI build then you get at least a 32-38% lobe if using a LT4 HPFP pump or a 42-43% lobe with a LPE HPFP. If your shop didn't know this then you chose the wrong shop.

Oh I for sure chose the wrong one. Lesson learned. All I can hope for is that my car doesn't blow up in the next few weeks before I get the exhaust and new tunes (E85/91)

Fun fact, this is true...because the new shop I took the car to said a stock cam, with a 2.175 pulley, headers, intake, throttle body, E85, made 700+.

This cam has to be worse than the stock because I run out of fuel from the high side.

I don't think it's worse but it isn't much better. You can run a stock fuel system out of fuel easy if you tune them like a LS... run them fat and don't have the SOI dialed in. These engines like a leaner AFR and injection timing is critical.

Here is a stock blower bolt-on ZL1 I tuned vs a VMP 2650 Coyote that made over 700whp.

For what it's worth I run the BTR .660" lift with the 38% fuel lobe. Also use the DSX low side kit. The builder and tuner have said, this is a very conservative build for this fuel lobe. Car never runs out of anything.

The new shop I'm going with is going to use that BTR stage 2 cam as well. I have the dsx lowside installed. You and I seem to have a very similar build. Hopefully on E im in the high 700's

660whp SAE in 6th gear on a Mustang Dyno which would put it right around 700 on a Dynojet.
