Drag Tire Help
I have some 17x10.5 Drag Star Wheels
Thinking about 315/35/17 MT Street R or 305/45/17 MT Street R Will this fit on a stock ZL1 without rubbing etc? Should I have gotten 17x9.5? Also would this be the best tire for strictly dragging? I will never drive in the rain etc so that doesn't matter at all Thanks so much! Last edited by Jrwimmer; 08-14-2022 at 02:03 PM. |

I ran a 305-45-17 on a 10.5. I should fit ok, 315 is too wide for a 9.5 wheel.

I have 10.5" Racestars with 305 SSs. The 305s fit fine. I did perform the relocation on the driver's side wire harness, which likely helps, but get no tire rub anywhere. There is no part of my tires touching anything but the wheels though. I did nothing else to fit them except the harness relocation. The Rs are probably the better tire, and I say "probably" because I don't have experience with them, but am completely positive everyone else who HAS commented on the is 100% correct. I can, however, tell you that the SSs are okay on the street. You can't go WOT from a dig on them, though, and if you spin them enough, they'll "ball-up" (I don't know if there's a term for this condition, but that's what I think I've seen a couple people use), and you won't get much better traction than stock tires until you "clean" them off. Then they'll get back to hooking about as good as before. I'll be trying Rs next time though, or maybe Nittos.
However (even though ask, I'll add comments, just in case) - I've read there should be a minimum of something like 0.100" clearance between any part of the suspension/brakes to the inner barrel of the rim. There is not this amount of clearance between the caliper and barrel. While the barrel hasn't contacted the caliper yet, it has rubbed on the caliper label, so it might as well be making contact in my book. JMO.

My SSs don't vibrate, but they sure like swaying. You car's making A LOT more power than me, so these aren't going to stick as good as the Rs. I'm sure you already know that though.
