Awe install..... need help

2018 zl1 manual mostly stock

Except Netherlands long list of curse words I could use to describe what a previous owner did to the factory exhaust...... the cut the secondary cats and welded in pipes to the factory exhaust pipe, then did the same for the muffler but y piped the factory tips together.

Me being a bit naive I bought the car in a different state and just thought the NPP was open.

So I got an AWE touring cutback to quieten this disaster, got it onna lift to install it today and found the also took rear muffler hangers off.... so I drove 2 hrs to my inlaws to bum his lift for nothing........ I'm not happy

There I've vented .....

Anyone happen to know the part number for the rear most exhaust hangers

Also since I don't have the points they base the measurements to cut the behind the secondary cats....... does anyone still sell the link pipes???

Damn, it can be tough when you aren’t sure what the previous owner did. The link pipes have been discontinued for quite a while now so I think you’ll be hard pressed to find them. You’re probably better off finding a custom exhaust shop and have them install the exhaust since it’s likely not going to be cut-and-dried in your particular case.

I have to second this… I was just under my truck doing some work, it’s such a pain in the ass. I’ve come to the conclusion my days of doing anything other than oil and diff fluid changes are pretty much over. Of course I don’t have a lift, but (in your case) trying to make anything actually work with unknown dimensions will be a time consuming nightmare. I’ll bet your time is worth more than what will be spent trying to make things right.

Save $ somewhere else. Buy the hangers and have the pros do the work.

I don’t believe you’ll find just the steel rod sold as a part number. You could always buy something like this and have it welded on in the proper location.

Sorry should have been more clear

It's not the rod it's the aluminum bracket that bolts to the chassis that holds the rubber grommet the rod goes through. Those were removed andnsome universal auto zone part was bent and bolted in it'd place. I think I've round the part numbers for them and they are $20 each.

I don't install parts to save money, I've just always done my own work, from oil change to engine replacements just my hobby. I replaced the front lip while I had it up innthe air for the first time.

I knew finding the link pipes would be a slim chance but that would solve the issues. I'll make the best of it. I have access to a lift at home also, just needed to make this trip regardless and forced bringing my car syndrome separate which was a whole thing...... so now it's all blew up in my face.

Thanks for listening to my rant.... I should have taken lics of the hack job,..... atleast I figured out the issue before I took everything out!

Don't need all the grommets but probably as cheap asnim gonna get a set

Finally got this completed

I got lucky and there was enough kf the oe pipe to still skip fit at the secondary cats. Install wasn't bad after that.

I like that you get the opportunity to set the tips how you want as far as depth.

Oh man! I've watched a ton of videos, but this sounds so much better in person!!!!!

Completely ditched the groan on highway it's night and day compares to the straight pipes. Start up is tamer, and it's deeper and not as sharp sounding.

Money well spent

Now if only I could tame my OCD..... driver side seems to stick out just a smidge more.....

Videos never do exhaust the justice they deserve.
