Short throw Hurst shifter

Any you fellas have any thoughts on the HURST BILLET/PLUS PISTOL GRIP SHORT THROW SHIFTER?

https://www.holley.com/products/driv.../parts/3916131

Looks pretty cool and 40% reduction in throw sounds appealing.

In my list. Son has one in V-Cad. Like old school white ball. Not a easy install.

All I have heard about it is how hard it is to install.

What the process, drop the transmission or something?

does the ZL1 come with the ss 1LE/gm performance shifter? if so, imho - don't. the hurst setup is a little stiffer but otherwise a complete waste of time.

Do you know if it actually shortens the throw? At least one member here believes the stock shifter has the same throw.

The shifter in the ZL1 has shorter throws than the SS and feels better to me. The Hurst shifter looks good with the white ball, which I had one in my 2010 SS but was a lot easier to install than the 6th gen. That’s the main reason I haven’t bought one yet. You have to take the driveshaft out or loose, pull the exhaust system out of the way and drop the trans to install the Hurst one.

I actually like the throw and the shift of the oem in the ZL1 M6. I wouldn’t even consider it unless I was already doing a clutch or pulling the trans for some other reason.

I haven't measured the stock throw, but it sure feels long. Anything that might shorten it can't be bad. Anyhow, this knob is the black aluminum pistol grip and it looks cool. And as far as installing it, some of the work I've done on the car was way more involved than this.

I'm not complaining about the stock throw and I have no problem with it. The install is no more or less involved than other stuff you and I have done to our cars. And as I stated above, it is pretty cool looking. One guy stated that he thought there might already be a GM flavor performance shifter already installed. If this is what GM calls a "performance shifter", it leaves some to be desired. This shifter claims a 40% reduction in throw. Doesn't that sound even just a little enticing?

I believe gm's shortened throw is only a 6% reduction, making hurst 34% shorter than chevys. Stock it feels great, but I'm sure it could be better.

Looks great, but after spending an hour in the garage today and not even being able to swap out the stock rear reflectors for smoked ones, I can't imagine trying to tackle that install. Either I'm just getting older and lazier, or cars are getting harder to work on.

That’s just my opinion. The stock shifter is so good (to me) that I won’t drop the trans just to replace it. As I mentioned, if I’m pulling the trans already for a clutch then I’d think about it.
