As for a sway bar i have a front hotchkis bar, set to medium or full stiff depending on how the car is feeling. The start of this year the blue pill was stuffer and pushier than i wanted it to be so i backed it off to the medium setup. works for me, may not work for others.
Thanks. Did you ever run it with stock sway bars? Did the sway bar change make it pushier as it would be expected to? To me it seems like doing that especially with the tires a little staggered would be way too pushy but sometimes especially in street class things don't work as expected.

I realized one other thing making my car possibly pushier than others is my car only managed 2.3 front camber so that probably contributes. Maybe I should try going after that.

I'm running Hotchkiss front and ZLE rear bars both on medium w/ 19x11 square setup. Ran REs and now 660s.

However, I got the bars and also did a more aggressive alignment w/ camber plates and rear toe link after I got the rear diff tune (I also did ZLE rear subframe bushings at the same time), which changes the car quite a bit, the diff tune reduces understeer on turn-in and increases oversteer and rotation on corner exit via aggressively unlocking then locking the rear diff. The setup overall probably gives up a bit of steady state cornering grip, but it keeps the rear end behind the front end far better, which allows a lot more throttle on corner exit and combined with steering inputs. It also keeps the back end from stepping out on slaloms and corner exit, which allows a tighter line.

I think the car is far faster setup this way, it's actually a lot easier to drive overall, it feels like the car is cooperating with me a lot more, but it takes some skill and practice to take advantage of the setup, my times did not all of a sudden get much faster, but they are improving steadily, and my times did get more consistent immediately after the bars and alignment.

So my setup may not apply well to a street class car but for CAM-C the bars, alignment and rear diff tune all compliment each other, and somehow the fairly radical change in roll bar setup makes the car handle incredibly well for autox, it does not feel like it pushes too much at all.

Packwood Tour, 1st in FS

Day 1

Day 2

The course was awful, especially on day 1. So many minimum width gates, there was virtually no line choice anywhere. I didn't drive very well on day 1 but day 2 was better.

Wow. That course looks like worthy home for one of the dumbest cone configurations ever conceived:

I saw photos of this on Facebook over the weekend and thought they were bad. Seeing it in motion in your video...it looks so much worse.

I've always heard such good things about Packwood and have often through about trying to arrange a fly and drive codrive for a Pro and Tour. Glad I didn't do it this year.

Despite all that, congrats on the win!

I've been to Packwood a few times before and the courses were always much better, this certainly was an outlier.

That trend needed to go away yesterday. I really hope the Eighties theme of Nationals doesn't make for "Corn Side Gymkhana".

So after doing the aforementioned mods and learning how to drive the car with that setup I'm getting a lot faster, but also ran into ice mode a couple times this weekend. I'm running a 305 square setup, will be going to 305/315.

Has anyone with a SLE installed a ZLE ABS module? Just the electronics and not the pump it's attached to:

Here's my conversation history directly with one of the GM Engineers responsible for the ABS calibration on the Camaro's. Hopefully this helps you, seems like it would be a fair bit of work. I hardly ever get Ice Mode in my car, maybe a half dozen times over the course of a season and when it happens I know exactly what I did to trigger it, so it's easily addressed.

I've heard quite a few rumours about the 2019 version of the SS 1LE receiving a revised ABS Control Module that supposedly addresses the hard pedal/ice mode issue. Is there any truth to this? If so would you happen to know the part # for the revised module?

Response
Hi Tom, the short answer is yes. We revised the calibration to be more robust to non-stock tires with an aim to give better performance for your type of usage.

This is a MY19 update. It can't be flashed into a MY17 Camaro.

You sent
Will the part number stay the same should I be able to find a MY2019 in a junk yard some day?

Response
What does work is moving a MY19 module (of exact Camaro SS 1LE specs) to a MY17-18 SS 1LE. This voids the warranty and is not approved or an authorized modification. I speak only from a motorsports enthusiast perspective. GM can not authorize this mod.

Response
The black box "EBCM" Has a part number, but that's just for a V8 Camaro. The calibration in it is flashed into it and matches the type of Camaro. "SS 1LE" in this case. You wouldn't want a base Camaro SS Calibration.

Your options are junkyard...or convincing a dealer to pull one, and you pay to replace it...

You sent
Was this module changed for the 2019MY specific to the SS 1LE or did all camaro variants receive a revised module?

Response
All variants have a new partnumber for 2019+

You sent
Are they all still unique ss, ss 1le, zl1, zl1 1le?

Response
There are three modules; one for the turbo 4 and V6, one for nearly all V8 cars and one for the new mid-level/entry V8 LT1 Camaro.

Each of those then needs a specific software for individual variant. Specific to transmission, brake package size (rotor and caliper), NPP exhaust, 1LE, and suspension option )passive or MR.

Putting a MY19 SS Auto EBCM into a MY17 SS 1LE will break things because the software won't see the right trans, brakes won't be sized properly for caliper or rotor so it software logic might think a caliper is leaking...

Need a module from an exact duplicate car for the transplant to work.

GM doesn't authorize this because the software has changed and was never validated in older cars.

Ok, thanks! Looks like the ZLE ABS module may not be ideal as described above, it doesn't have MRC and the brakes are different too. The thought it might actually "break things" is concerning and it would be nice to avoid that!

I agree the cause of ice mode is understandable and correctable, I avoided it my last 2 runs but it also ruined my confidence as the place it happened was a 75 to 30 mph braking zone, I made sure there wasn't any steering inputs initiating braking and sure enough no ice mode! Some of the faster cars were hitting over 85 mph!

I did find an exact match with the same seller, a '19 SLE w/6MT. I suppose ice mode is still possible but it should be an improvement and won't break anything.

I don't think it'll be that much work as it looks like all that needs to be done is r&r the electronics module, I don't think replacing the entire pump assembly is required.

FWIW, I have driven a 2017 SS with light mods almost back to back with my own 20 1SS 1LE on autocross courses, and the 19+ is definitely way improved. I got consistent ice mode in a couple spots on the course where I codrove this car, whereas in 2.5 seasons of autocross use I've gotten ice mode twice ever in my car. So that's a big improvement.

I'm surprised that the newer modules just drop in to the pre-19 cars given that the communication strategy changed from MOST to ethernet in 19. I guess that doesn't affect the control modules? I'm sure that engineer knows what he's talking about, though.

One of the better drivers in our region has a '17 SS modified for CAM or ESP and says it's a regular issue. The 1LEs are less likely to ice mode vs the std SS in '17 and '18, not sure about '19+.

What I'm surprised about is the ABS module needing to match suspension and exhaust types, I have no idea how that relates to braking... It also seems like the '18 SLE and ZLE are close enough as long as the wheel speed sensors are the same, but there is mag ride vs DSSV, the tranny has different gearing and the brakes are different, so it sounds like that's enough for it to not be compatible.

In any case I'm happy to have found a '19 module that's a match for my car, I think that module combined with going with a staggered tire setup will keep ice mode from becoming more of an issue as I figure out how to drive the car with the new setup.

Ok, well it's definitely possible to update your EBCM to a '19+

The car freaked out at first (idiot lights, reset driving modes to stock settings, etc. so I disconnected the battery and went to eat lunch, answer emails, etc. Went to start the car and it gave me half a crank, all lights lit. One more attempt and it started, but gave me the same errors as before, ABS, Stabilitrack and you can't turn off traction or stability using the button near the shifter. At that point I almost gave up, but figured it was running just fine and maybe some miles would be all that's needed. One block later all error lights went off and all back to 100% normal.

Anyways, cheaper than upgrading the whole car, but big PITA to R&R that module! You need that tiny female torx/ebit or a 5/32 socket, a wobble, extension set and ideally a powered 1/4" ratchet for the bolts, if you don't have the right length extensions, etc. you'll probably have to go buy something because there's just no room to deal unless you want to take the mount off, which is also possible but the 3rd bolt is difficult to access too. If you leave it as-is you'll have to loosen the 2 bolts closest to you in order to flex the pump enough so the EBCM has enough room to remove it.

I also assume GM may be able to figure out that module isn't stock, the VIN won't match. I assume they will decline to warranty any of the braking system and maybe more.

After buying one (and a 3/8") a few years back, I don't know how I lived without them for so long.

Anyway, great to hear it the swap worked!

OTOH, pre-19 cars are increasingly out of warranty now...
