2022 SS / NPP

Everyone,

I had a 2020 before my SS, and it had the NPP as well. I cut the resonators out of the last one (was a v6 with NPP) and had a x pipe installed. I am waiting to keep the NPP on my v8 and do some mod similar to this to enhance the sound of the exhaust, but keep the NPP in tact. Can a resonator delete be done to this as well? Wasn’t sure if the v6 to v8 with NPP was drastically different. SMOG is not a concern either, so shoot me with your ideas. Thanks!

Yes you can delete the resonator on these cars. It will increase sound a tad but not much. Your local muffler shop should be able to do this and it wont cause a Check Engine Light.

I do not believe they are resonators, I am fairly certain they are secondary catalytic converters. Pending emissions checks in your area, you can remove them. Not sure I recommend or not, I have not done so.

Just had my secondary cats removed this morning. Slight increase in sound. Noticeable for sure. I like it better.

In CA? Nice, didn't know you could get away with it over near LA.

To be fair - removing them is one thing, passing a smog/emissions test after they are removed is another...

This is from another user on here. If gutted this way and seal welded back together is will appear that they are still original and complete and won't throw a code. Secondary cats are generally only used during the warm up of the primaries.

It will still pass smog. A shop has to put it up on a rack to see they are missing. I’m not worried about it I have ways to get it done and if I have to put them back on before it’s 45 min. Job. The car does not need smog for 6-8 years.
