I know some electronics do that for example cell phones if you have the dash mount for a cell phone and its in the sun it will sometimes turn off the cell phone due to heat.
I bet the heat dont help the issue. But fords dont seem to have the issue..
I just hope its an easy or go away fix.

Different Touchscreens vary from manufacturer.

IT equipment is usually provided under contract. So maybe GM had a contract for all 7 years, which would explain the commonality of the issue and no resolution.

Keep using a broken part, and the part keeps breaking.

It could just be the touchscreens themselves that have a design failure

It's actually a fairly easy replacement so no need to remove the whole dashboard if you're just replacing the screen, that is if you are out of warranty of course.

How hard is it to just remove this unit and reseat the connections?
I would bet connection/communication problem before blaming the module itself.

Also, note similar concurrent thread:

A trim bezel around the radio and a couple of 10 mm screws if I remember correctly. Plenty of YouTube videos that show how to remove it. I'd try and find you a link but I'm at work and they block YouTube here.

A lot of these particular cars have this loose connection issue then. So much for that rigorous 1000 hour testing standard

Hopefully your issue is resolved. I had a very persistent issue with my back up camera not working during the summers. After many visits and long car stays it was finally resolved.

What all did they try, and what finally fixed it?

I believe the first thing they did was try to reset system and it didn’t work. After that they literally had to replace every wiring harness from the unit all the way back to the camera. The entire process probably took three months.
