I modify my performance cars, even my daily driver truck, to personalize it. My ZLE feels a little more mine, more personal to me because it’s exhaust sounds different than the two or three I see at car shows or at the track, the blower whine sounds differently too, and of course the way it drives is unique to my car with my mods. The feeling of taking a great vehicle and personalizing the driving experience, is for me, the reason I mod.

So true. When I don't drive my ZL1 for for a few days and then take it for a spin it reminds me how quick and powerful this car is. The other thing to keep in mind is that the Camaro handles the power of the LT4 quite nicely. It is a better package for the LT4 than the C7 Z06 was IMO. I went with the GrandSport in the C7 for this reason, I felt the LT1 and gearing in the GS was a better match to the chassis and more fun to drive.

I feel the same. I have tried going in the other direction as well. Lightweight like a Miata or GR86. They lack power but you can keep your foot on the floor and wind out gears longer.

We need cars to weight around 2800-3000lbs again with where a naturally aspirated V8 and nice Tremec gear box and call it a day. The C5 Z06 C6 Z06 were right around 3100lbs. I really enjoyed my C5 Z06.

This is my 1st Camaro that I haven't modded the crap out of.

The ZLE is a mona liza and once I start out driving the car on the road track then I'll mod it. Until then I run multiple 20 min sessions without a single issue.

That's funny, if by track you mean circuit (vs drag-strip) I see it in the opposite way... if I didn't use my ZLE almost exclusively on the track where 650 HP is more than I'm capable of maximizing and I need it to be OEM reliable, I'd be more likely to modify it.

If I was only having fun on onramps and backroads, where I wanted the thrill of ridiculous acceleration and I was close to my house and mechanic if something went wrong, I wouldn't worry as much about mods.

The only place I can use extra HP is on the straights and even there the advantage really depends on the track, 650 TQ is a lot and there's more time to be saved in the turns. There's a guy at Willow Springs 2.5 mile ("Fastest Track in the West") who runs 1:26s in a 70s or 80s era Porsche 911 with 250 WHP.

Fun read, 2018 had in since April this year. I said 650 was plenty, and for now it is, but I could easily see myself modding for a bit more power out of the enjoyment of modding/working on cars.

That said I daily mine and even I admit, I can't use the HP it has unless I'm on the freeway which is pretty minimal. 80% of the time its city driving.

It's also not my only high HP car though..... I have a 4th gen firebird with a 414 stroker putting down 530. I'm sure I'll get that bug to up the power at some point but for now I'm pretty satisfied.

Man those C5 Z06 clean up around where I ride. I couldn't touch one of em at my last couple of outings.

This particular one was 3 seconds a lap faster than me running the Hoosier A7. No engine modifications. Just chassis.

As a matter of fact, Rob Lombardi might have been the fastest guy out there that day in this car other than the guy driving the Norma M30. As much as I love the ZL1-1LE I've actually contemplated getting a C5 Z06 just for track duty for around $25k-$30k.

I've owned 45 cars now. The majority have been domestic muscle cars. I got the audi because I have 2 kids and wanted the fastest sedan available under $60k. I'm not selling this car to get the zl1. The camaro will be the weekend/carshow/cruising toy. I wanted one last manual v8 muscle car before that option is gone for all of us.

I will say that the rs3 is the best all around car I've ever owned. I've never kept a car longer than 3 years, and I'm coming up on the 4th anniversary in September.

Why did you sell the Grand Sport but keep the Camaro?

I told myself I wasn't going to mod my 17 zl1 after adding twin turbos to my Delorean, my 96 z28 had a built motor and Vortec T trim system, 2010 started as a SC car ended up twin turbos, 2016 SS supercharger and headers thank god it was free, and 2017 zl1 about as far as the stock block can go sitting at 1044 rwhp with more carbon replacement parts(not stickers) than anyone in the camaro community. I'm tired of losing money to mods just to have supercar performance. I thought that the z06 C8 would be the ticket when I heard the 85k price tag but its inflated to 150k now and has made buying a camaro and modding it the still the cheapest route to fulfill ones ego. Not sure why I cant just buy a car and let it alone. I guess when someone pulls up to me and wants to roll race I feel like I need to win every time or if going to a car showing or event I like having one of the best cars there. If your honest it has all to do with your ego. I see a lot of post about saying that you enjoy making it faster. Come on, nothing is enjoyable losing money on go fast parts. I've done a lot of the work myself I didn't get any instant gratitude or pleasure busting knuckles or sweating to death at my shop.. However nothing beats that grin you get or pleasure when you walk all over someone on the road or someone compliments you on your ride. Its all about having the best or being the best and not settling for stock.. It's an EGO thing!

I agree it is somewhat ego, problem is someone is always faster or has a better looking car. Like the man says, "you have got to know your limitations". At that point I concede.

I can understand to personalize your “toy”, but don’t
Expect a return on your investment in regards to $$
Amount on mods…. But if u have a “Need for Speed “
Buy a motorcycle, specifically an H2,ZH2, or an H2 SXSE
All three will run in the high 9’s at 149-150 mph in
The quarter, cost approximately $15-$25 k, and
Get between 25-35 mpg! Depending on your throttle hand!
PS have a lawyer on retainer!
