Holding paddle shift down for proper gearing

Question, while driving the car last week I tried to hold the downshift so I can engage the lowest possible gear the system will allow for, however it did nothing.
If wasn't until I clicked one down (entering manual mode), then held it did it do the trick.

I was in automatic mode, does it need to be in manual mode for this to work? User error?

I believe it needs to be in manual. Mine wouldn’t do it either in auto when I tried. I’m also having very funky things going on with my ecu and tcu as far as shifting fine one day and like a**cheeks the next. Not really sure if that’s the issue but we will try a diff flush and see if that does anything

Alas, two taps are needed, the first one to enter manual mode, then you can hold the paddle down for the optimal gear.

Alternatively, and this is what I prefer, you can blip the throttle to the floor for switching instantly to performance shift mode and then have at it. Once you've had enough fun and start driving like a grandma again, the trans will quietly disengage PSM and revert to the standard auto shift algorithm.

Doing the throttle blip is way faster than trying to hold the paddle down. The throttle blip works in auto mode and you can move the shifter over to manual if you want to hold that gear.

Just keep in mind that in order to get the throttle blip to work you need to be in Sport or Track mode. It doesn't engage in Tour mode.
