2016 TCM is not locked and can be tuned without sending off. I used HP tuners on my 2016 2SS A8.

We only need 2 credits to tune our cars. I had Ted Jannetty remote tune mine, but the process is pretty simple. I just connected HPtuner to car, read ECU and TCU, then I emailed my base tune to Ted. After a few emails back and forth he sent me an updated tune. I just opened it in HPtuners and wrote it to the vehicle.

4 for ECM 4 for TCM 1 for FSCM I’d make a joke about HP Tuners putting their kids through college on us ‘17-up guys, but after seeing that they charge $2000 just to unlock the new ZR1 ECM, I’m not going to complain.

2016 also requires 1 additional credit to tune the FSCM if you need to tune it too, Alpha. I wasn't adding enough parts at the time that I needed to change anything on the fuel system. And I am SO glad that I got the 2016 and not a later model, Joshinator99. That's an extra chuck of money just to be able to tune, not to mention what you pay to the actual tuner!

Haha! Yeah, it's definitely not enough to impact a purchasing decision. Just something to feel good about after the fact that I'm not spending that extra that I might have had to.

2016's still utilize R134 refrigerant in the AC systems that doesn't cost a fortune to replace compared to 17+. The ECU's(E92 vs E92a) are also not as picky about throwing the car into reduced power mode for emissions CEL's.

Sorry about this... but I'll be "That guy"....
Are you guys tuning these due to the A8 Shudder problem, or just in general. And if so on the A8 problem, what's been your result. Can this HP Tune eliminate the shudder? Thank you in advance.

No, hp tuners can not eliminate the shudder, tcm tune does not eliminate shudder. Only a fluid flush or torque converter swap will resolve the shudder. |

I had mine tuned the first time with Ted Jannetty right after getting the flush done. He tuned it for additional performance and also to help with the shudder issue. I know he also disabled DOD, which helps with the shudder and also changed shift pressures and zeroed out the slip tables. I didn't have any shudder in it for the past 3 years and this is still my daily driver. In the last couple weeks I've started to notice the shudder again, so I may try another flush, but I've heard others say that really once you have the shudder, there are things you can do to make it better, but eventually the TC is going to go. I'm probably going to throw an aftermarket TC on it with a little higher stall at some point if the flush doesn't get it back to normal. But all in all, I would say it's definitely worth it to get tuned to try to fix the shudder, but just keep in mind that if the TC is already damaged, the tune may not be enough. (And if you do need a remote tune, I HIGHLY recommend Ted Jannety.
