This thread is about wireless carplay/android auto. Wired carplay/android auto has been since, I think, the 2016 MY.

Basically, wireless carplay/android auto links the phone to the car through a wireless charging pad. Wired carplay/android auto links the phone to the car through a lightning/usb-c cable plugged into the phone's port.

I've found a cheaper option for wireless apple carplay that so far works like a champ. They sell this bluetooth/wireless adapter that plugs into the car usb and connects to your phone using bluetooth and it works just as well as having the phone cable plugged in. No lag, no intermittent issues if the cable gets bumped (which was my main issue) and so far after using it for around a week I'm loving it. For 120 bucks it's a lot cheaper than any other option to attain wireless carplay in an older camaro. It took 5-10 mins to get setup, but now it connects up automatically and has carplay displayed within 20 seconds of me backing out of the garage. You can also add multiple phones to the adapter so different phones can be displayed if you have more than one running carplay.

I was wondering how wireless apple carplay works with multiple phones?

I have a deposit on a suburban that will have it. we both will be the only ones that drive it, but also we will frequently be both in the car with our phones. do you choose which phone to connect to every time the car starts if it detects two phones? do you need to choose to connect to a phone every time?

Really love this option as my iPhone Pro Max doesn’t fit in the center armrest or on the charging pad like my older iPhone did in my 19 ZLE.

My wifes brand new grand cherokee allows this. You just pick which one you want to be the "primary" if it doesn't see that one, than it will revert to the other one.
