That's because the poll title itself states Camaro and not ZL1, so even though this is in the ZL1 Discussions section, people probably add their 2016 SS oil pump failures.

Yep - the pump ring that fails has not been beefed up, you need to buy an aftermarket Katech pump

I still think giving the oil PLENTY of time to warm up before you hammer the throttle helps, but no guarantees - and yeah it's not exactly confidence inspiring in terms of GM QC

Update: They're refusing to offer me anything more than 25% of the repair, kinda rediculous they're making these pumps that cheap that their failure rate is pretty common.

My oil pump just went at 62k miles on my 2017 SS :(
For anyone that didn’t go through warranty, how much did it cost to fix?

17 hours of labor @ 120$/hr
1000$ in parts (200$ oil pump, gaskets, seals, belt...etc)

When the oil is still cold it is thicker and doesn’t flow as well so the pressure is higher which puts more strain on the pump, etc. Take note of the oil pressure gauge when when the engine is still cold versus operating temp. You should see a lower pressure as the oil heats up and flows better.

Regardless, there is no excuse for failed oil pumps. Poor design, faulty part, disheartening.

Which failure mode was it? Was it timing chain tensioner spring rub through or a broken pump pivot sleeve?

My guy quoted me $2384 plus cost of pump

Sometimes dealerships won't quote you the price of gaskets and bolts because they don't know what they gotta tear apart, you're gonna end up needing a ton of those for the amount of shit they pull off.

I figured it'd be 200$ for parts but they ended up giving me a sheet of parts for gaskets, bolts and other stuff they "shouldn't" reuse.

Not a dealer, shop and I are on same page. Have a katech pump on order when it gets here we’re throwing it in so I can put this behind me.
