Get the 1SS 1LE and enjoy the car! That’s my advice to you Camden.

Go with the LT1. If you're only going to drive it on the street and mountain roads, then the extra stuff on the SS 1LE is a waist. The only thing you'll need to upgrade on the LT1 are the wheels and tires. Paying 7K to 9K extra is A LOT of money for something you won't ever fully use on a track.

You don't need to worry about the LT1 overheating on mountain roads. People take far less capable cars to mountain roads all the time (i.e. WRX, Civic Si, BMW M340i, GTIs, etc) and those cars are fine. The overheating is only an issue on the track after repeated laps.

+ brakes, +additional coolers.

With this caliber of car, I'd 100% be getting custom forged wheels. That's a minimum of $4000. I've already bought 2 sets for my cars, this would be the third.

A set of PS4S to go with it, minimum $1700. Looking at nearly $6k just for my wheel and tire set up, and this money spent is money I'll basically never get back on potential resale in the future.

That’s my idea that you will spend around $6000 on wheels/tires and other possible mods so you might as well spend the extra $1500 on the 1LE.

No brainer at this point. 1LE is the financially sensible option

Whoah it's a Camaro, not a Porsche. 4K in wheels alone? For just street/mountain driving? That's almost 10% the value of the whole car (LT1).

Since you sound set on the 1LE you really owe it to yourself to do some track driving then. Or at least some autocross. Either way good luck with your decision!

It’s a lot of $, but it is what it is. I spent $2750 for new 1LE OEM “take offs”. Look great and the handling is fantastic (transforms the LT1)

The stock OEM wheels and tires will be for dry and clean road winter driving.

Decent set of rotary forged wheels are at least to 2000 to 2500. Technically I could get a set of fully forged custom wheels for cheaper than $4,000 but only by a few hundred dollars. The price difference between the cheapest forged wheel option and rotary forged is not enough to save a few bucks.

by this standard, we all might as well be driving ford tempos. the 1LE is a waste unless it's on track. the v8 is a waste unless it's on track. the camaro altogether is a waste unless it's on track. and corvettes and mustangs and cts ats ct5 v cadillacs and hellcats and.....it never ends.

to the op: i bought a ss 1LE. i bought a set of "forged lightweight wheels" to replace the factory wheels. i also bought a set of drag wheels to throw on the car when it's going to a drag strip. and a set of wheels/snow tires for it to sit on when i'm not driving it over winter. do i ever wish i had a lesser car? never, but i do keep wondering if i shouldve bought a ZL1 instead.

I don't have any interest in planet pulling power, and I think the NA V8 perfectly compliments the chassis.

Do you or anyone know how much the factory 1LE wheels weigh? They look pretty heavy.

with tires: front 58 lb. rear 59 lb.

edit: they are lighter than the factory pp1 wheels/tires we weighed off my buddys 19 mustang.

i think the 20" diameter is what kills performance the most. if i do it again i'll buy a set of 19" wheels instead. no matter how many spare sets of 20" gy sc3 tires i have sitting around.

Agreed, these cars are emotional purchases. The aggressive styling, sharp handling, overpowered, track capable, are what makes these cars fun to drive and own.

I recall when I bought my base C7 Stingray. I was pretty disappointed in the suspension. They had it way too floaty, even for the street. Then I realized the base model didn't even have a rear swaybar. I added the Z51 swaybars, which improved it a lot. Eventually I traded it for a Grand Sport that included magride, which felt even much better to me and I don't track the car.

I also owned a 2016 Camaro SS with magride (FE3) and I also felt it was a little too soft for my liking. I now have the ZL1 with the FE4 suspension (same as SS 1LE) and it feels right. So, some of this stuff is subjective. I would buy the SS1LE for the looks alone. Beefy red 6-piston calipers, the 1LE wheels are the best looking in the lineup IMO, hood wrap, etc.

If you can afford it, get the 1SS 1LE. I ordered a 21 2SS 1LE when I knew I wanted a ZL1. So I traded it in on a ordered 22 ZL1. Your getting the same V8 motor either way. You will enjoy either one. Just make sure you do it right the 1st unlike me. Good luck with your choice.
