Since I'm very new to this, if a vehicle option/trim is on constraint, I guess we have no idea when/if it will be picked up then I assume? So I ordered a 2SS 1LE... I wonder if I should just change it to a 1SS 1LE. Then again, it might be my dealership not having an allocation for one as well? I don't know.

Right now chevybot says "Order submitted by dealer, but not officially accepted by GM at this time."

If you are a patient type person I would leave the order in just like you want for a few weeks. A lot of time the constraints are partial and not full. I got lucky with my 2023 order I placed on 4/25. Just about my entire order was on partial constraint at the time my dealer got allocation. Radiant red, 2SS, 1LE, A10, and PDR. On 5/16 my dealer emailed me and said GM accepted my order with everything I wanted. I was willing to wait at 1100 status a couple months before I started changing what I wanted.

According to the 6th Gen Mustang forum, they are experiencing the same frustrations when ordering that we are.

Well something didnt add up with my 23 order. The paperwork said retail stock. and i remembered the general manager say he needed to make a new order and switch it to sold. i asked them what the new order number was and they gave me that which explains why the old one was stuck at 0500 status. mine is now 1100 status granted this isnt much better. but hopefully my 1LT RS 3.6 will start moving along soon.

I have the same setup on order. My order has been stuck waiting for GM to accept for 26 days. It will continue in that state until my dealer gets an allocation to support my order. This week my dealer got 2 allocations for verts but no coupes. Fortunately, I can afford to wait this one out. It only requires is a little patience.

Tip of the Day!

Find dealer's not charging over MSRP. They will be the ones receiving the highest amounts of allocations from GM.

When he gets an allocation that matches your order, then GM will accept the order that he sends. Until then all you can do is wait.

Great information. Thank you all.

Since this maybe a "last of it's kind" car for me to enjoy daily for a few years, then hang onto it for my kid as he gets older, I might as well get what I want.

Dealer allocations wise, what's the magic to method of this system? They are a larger volume dealer, been around forever, they sell a lot of Camaros/Vettes as I see them there and gone soon after. They had the C8 on the early stop before release. And they don't charge mark ups. So how does their allocations work? They get "x" amount of them every few weeks? Like maybe next week they would get one for a Camaro Coupe order or something?

Thanks again all! Everyone's been very helpful so far. I'm just excited for this.

Going with a larger volume dealer seems to be the way to go. The key is being patient, especially if you want a '23 configured to your specs.

I do not understand how GM distributes allocations to the dealers but it seems like a lottery system where each week GM notifies those dealers that are receiving allocations for that week. Once your dealer has an allocation for they type of car you are ordering the order will get accepted by GM. Last week, my dealer got two convertibles so my 2SS Coupe order will continue in the waiting status until an allocation comes to support my order. It might take a few weeks before he gets allocations for coupes.

Even after years, I'm struggling to understand the motivation behind gm's current allocation system, down to the very basics of why they don't simply FIFO or maybe priority queue incoming orders from all dealerships.

What is there to gain from the extra and very confusing "layer" of allocation dispersal, apart from frustration to many involved (i.e. when actual paying customers' orders simply do not go anywhere—talk about turning people off to your products) vs a straightforward approach that has no nasty surprises for anybody? After all, these vehicles are technically sold directly to the dealerships, so gm shouldn't care even if the customer cancels, from their point of view it's a sale no matter what...

It's checks and balances. Why reward dealers who are non compliant with more sales? These dealers are franchises and if they don't follow basic rules and get good reviews on surveys not only for new car purchases but service they won't receive large allowances for new vehicle allocations.

Just give it a other 3-5 years. Most new car dealerships will be factory owned and operated for service and basic test drives only. All new car sales will be done online cutting the middle man out

Unless the laws are changed, that won't be happening. There are several laws that ban direct sales to consumers. Tesla just uses a loophole in the law to get away with it. But yeah, Ford is trying to do something similar to Tesla with their Model e program.
