LT4 Blower to Head Bolt Torque

Does anyone know if you can tighten the supercharger bolts more than 89in lbs? After 2 passes only some of the bolts are bottomed out. Some of them have a slight gap still. Also the seal from the supercharger to the runner is visible.

Are the bolts bottomed out? Check the depth.

Only some of the bolts are bottomed out. I attached some photos of the bolts, not sure if you’re able to see them. Some of them bottomed and the rest still have a slight gap before bottoming even though my torque wrench said 89in lbs was achieved.

No, check the depth of the bolts vs the depth of the holes. It appears the end of the bolts are hitting the bottom of the holes. You might need shorter bolts.

I would not recommend more than 89in lbs. a couple of z06 guys have stripped them. Not a fun project.

Thats the lid bolt tq. Not sure if its the same for the blower to head tq.

now I see your slight gaps. That is odd. Not insulting you, but you started each bolt by hand and did not crossthread them right? Also, on my 19 Z06, the bricks are slanted (not sure if they are also slanted on the ZL1, but assuming so). If I remember correctly, the back bolts are longer than the front bolts. Check the length one more time

I appreciate your help and feedback. I did start them all by hand to make sure not to cross thread and used a small torque wrench to get them tight. At this point these bolts were installed two days ago and have been removed twice and reinstalled. There's still loctite on the bolts and all the o rings are still okay.

I do have the bigger z06 slanted cooling bricks on my supercharger but I set all the bolts side by side today and they all appeared to be the same length. Just to be sure I'm not imagining things I am going to see if I can't get any feedback from calling some reputable shops and asking about the bolt length. Weird thing is everything was sealed up and ran fine last week. All thats new are the bolts I picked up from gm.

I'm wondering if there could be left over debris from the old supercharger bolt sealing rings logged down into the bolt whole preventing me to bottom the bolt out?

Sorry bud, I wish I could be of more help. I would be very interested if you could update this thread when you figure it out. Talking to a shop is a good idea. Also, large-sized Chevy dealers tend to have some knowledgeable techs, although many are useless, you can usually track down the engine tech at your local dealer and possibly get some advice.
One other thing, and not sure if it will help, but David at Mighty Mouse has a YouTube video of them removing the SC on a z06 to install their catch can. Haven’t watched that video in a while, but you might want to forward through it until you get to the SC bolts coming off and then going back on. Maybe he says something that might help? Good luck, I know how frustrating it is being stuck.

So i just discovered that the bolts are too long by 1/8 of an inch. I think it’s because the holes on the lt4 heads are deeper than the threaded holes on the adapter plates for my set up.

Is this something i could fix by adding a few washers under each bolt head to prevent the bolt end from bottoming? I wanted to avoid having to cut them or looking for a new bolt.

The bolts you have now should be 95mm long.

Grinding 1/8” (3.17mm) from the overall length won’t cause an issue as long as you don’t put heat in the material. Of course at minimum you would have to put at least a 1mm x 45° chamfer on afterwards. After that I’d wire wheel the chamfer to make sure there are no burrs in the thread. If you have a small bench top lathe you could turn the dog point back in like OEM.

If you’re not interested in this option, just get 10 M6 x 1.0 x 85mm long bolts. As you know they’re flange bolts and if you didn’t know they are dog points at the beginning.

What’s the grade of these bolts? 10.9? (it should be stamped on the head)

Here’s a link to the M6 x 1.0 x 85mm in a 10.9 grade. If you can find 90mm long that would be better.

I wouldn’t use a zinc coated bolt.

If you go searching for a bolt on your own make sure you get the same grade as what you have now.
