Can a catch can cause surging, bucking?
Have an ‘18 SS 1LE with less than 2700 miles. No mods other than a mishimoto catch can. Noticed in the mornings when it’s cold the car will surge and buck for the first couple minutes/driving a few miles. Concerned that the catch can is to blame?

Have you double checked for any vacuum leaks? I once left the valve on a CC partially open and it created some odd idle and low rpm issues.
Also, these LT1's can have some rough idle manners after a cold start in colder weather.

I can’t think of any where on the catch can there could be a leak? I’m going to buy an OBD scanner on Amazon and check. Installation of the mishimoto catch can was painless. I can’t imagine it screwing anything up.

I suggest you disconnect the can and reinstall the original PCV hose to see if the car runs differently.

its cold. what rpm are you bucking at? does it go away after it warms up? if it goes away after it warms up its normal on a 455 hp car with a stick if your running at a low rpm. keep it around 2000rpm until it warms up under 4500.

Mine does the same thing and I have no catch can. Always wondered if it was my CAI but glad to see others have the same issue.

Jus finished installing a mms catch can on my 16 camaro ss with an lt4 blower. After initial start up the rpms would surge followed by a rough chop that would cause everything to shake. The rpms surge every 2-3 second until the motor stalled. I rechecked all my fittings and connections to make sure there was no vacuum leak or pinched hose. I'm bamboozled after a full day of trying to figure this out.
The mighty mouse can is set up coming from the port under the supercharger snout near the valley. Mighty mouse includes a piece called a diverter which replaces the factory plug and allows the pressure/oil to be vented to the can. From the can my return line tees off into the brake booster near the throttle body.

Might be a dumb question, but is there a difference between catch cans meant for the LT4 and the LT1? If so, did you purchase the correct one?

If your motor will stay running, you could try the old carb cleaner trick, spray short bursts around possible vacuum leak areas and if the motor stumbles you have a leak in that area.
Are there any engine codes popping up? |
