Automatic Shift Knob Removal

I’m wanting to wrap the silver on my shift knob and I watched Lethal Camaro’s removal video but I’m a little hesitant to just pull the current knob off. Will it be able to be placed back on or will it break?

So to place my original knob back on I’ll just need to put the U ring back in?

I was hesitant too but it really is that simple. Actually mine wasn't as difficult as in the video.

Yes,I guess you can also rip it off and put it back on by pushing on it.The link i shared is the correct way though.

Thanks for posting these instructions. I changed my shift knob to Kalahari and was trying the "pull" method. Wasn't liking how that was working. Dropping the trim piece and pulling the ring was so much simpler and safer. And funny - I've changed my shift knob on my third gen and it worked the same way, with a ring.

I was a bit nervous to do this as well, but it's really simple. I swapped out the stock one, for the GM carbon fiber one. Took a total of about 10min. tops.

You just have to be careful dropping the chrome trim piece to get at the clip. It’s easy to dimple on the edge.
