The two failure modes I know about are:
1. Crack at the ring pivot pin, resulting in loss of pumping pressure.
2. Failure of the timing chain tensioner spring, resulting in a rub-through of the outer housing of the pump, resulting in loss of pressure.

I can't speak authoritatively to that, but the gear is really thick.

All these pumps have the same gear according to Katech (their pump uses upgraded billet gear).

Imo your best defense is give the oil PLENTY of time to reach operating temp. Bad things tend to happen when you hammer the throttle on cold/high viscosity oil (which is much higher stress on the pump)
Here I was thinking I could relax the more miles I accumulated. I wonder what the actual failure rate percentage is?

I think you are the only one talking about the cam chain tensioner here. All the failures I remember on this thread were just the pump internals cracking and causing subsequent chaos.

Agree - need to retract my comment on the gear because Katech already said it's always the ring that fails (as in picture in link above) - still stress fracture though

On an oil analysis at 900+ miles there was metallic glitter in my oil. I drained that oil and put in a fresh change after 100 miles. I wonder if others have had this metallic glitter adding to the stress on these parts and creating the conditions for the stress fractures. I have no idea where this metallic glitter is from. I speculate it's the product of break-in.

Agreed. It is not unusual for there to be metallic “glitter” in the oil after a first change on a fresh engine, same with a diff fluid change. Not necessarily a sign of any problems if the particles are just dust and there is not an excessive amount.

2017 Camaro ZL1 @ 75,000km (03/17)
No/Low Oil Pressure

Out of Warranty by about 30 days

My GM dealership offered to cover 25%, not sure if I'm happy with that considering the failure is pretty common by the looks of things.

That sucks they won't do any better than that. I have about 2 months left on mine. I expect it to go in about 2 months and 1 day.

Well that’s 25% of the repair cost that you won’t have to pay on a 5 year old car! I personally would be happy.
