In transit dealer stock
so a dealer has a couple of ZL1 and 1ss 1le camaros in transit which i could BUY but have no idea when it will hit the dealers lot. My question is has anyone done this before-seems like i could be making payments for 2-3-4 months before delivery-these cars do sell just like what i just mentioned and would like others input on this new trend of buying.
Thanks Mark |

Depending on the dealer you should only need to put a deposit down, my LT1 has been picked and now recently put on hold since February, but I only needed a $500 deposit to hold it for me until it shows up and then I sign papers.

By the time its in transit, you should see it within 4 weeks. Now with that said, most of these "in transit" cars are spoken for already. When someone orders them like I did mine it will show up on their website in transit, as did mine. It gets others to have more interest in the car coming in just in case the person who ordered the car backs out. They had more than 6 other people on the list waiting for mine when it came in. This is why I had already filled out the paper work ahead of time.

Like the other post said, put down a deposit and do the financing paperwork upon delivery. Just make sure it is refundable. Just for comparison, my go to dealership is now requiring a $2500 deposit on any customer order. I have bought several vehicles from them so they only asked for a $1000 deposit when I ordered my 22 ZL1 in February.
They said no worries if I changed my mind or backed out of the deal because they could sell it immediately. But I didn't. |

You wouldn't make payments until the car arrives and you actually purchase the vehicle. You can't take possession of a vehicle in transit.
You will need to confirm the car isn't spoken for, dealer websites update automatically regardless of if the car is spoken for so it may say its available and in transit but in reality its a sold car snd the dealers system automatically listed it and they haven't manually removed it yet. If by some chance it is not spoken for, you would place a deposit and then wait for it to arrive. I was looking for a ZL1 and a few were listed as in transit vehicles, some even on external websites like Autotrader, all of them were customer ordered cars. |

You can only put down a deposit on a car until the dealer gets the full invoice for the vehicle. Mine was built on Feb 10, 2022, and was invoiced to my dealer on the 14th, when I bought it. The car hit the dealer lot on the 16th and I had it shipped to me. I bought it early to lock in the low finance rate and rebates.
