Inside job. Or staged.
With security systems these days, my 70 year old parents will know someone is approaching before you even get to their front porch. So how TF do you not only get onto the property which in 2022 should have motion detection sensors and who knows what other security, but then break into the facility, find and get the keys, bypass OnStar which is supposed to be able to shut down the car, then get the vehicles off the property, all before the cops can get there? Unless the police station is 20 miles away or something. Even then to do everything necessary to pull this off would mean that the perpetrators would have had to know where everything was. I mean, did they leave the keyfobs to each vehicle in the center console? None of this seems to add up. And anyone who can pull of a heist to this degree wouldn't just go running from the cops and crash into a ditch. They'd be smart enough to know that you are not gonna outrun the cops. This ain't a Jason Bourne flick. |

I’m beginning to think it’s an inside job especially since it’s happened more than once and with all the security procedures in place. At least I hope they have the factory area secure but I do wonder now.

Be aware if your dealer calls and says your delivery is "late due to unforeseen circumstances" LOL

And again, with OnStar, how were the cars not shut down? Last I checked OnStar could send a signal and disable a vehicle. These vehicles were fully operational, had all fluids in them and were ready to hit the road but OS was not activated? |

How does anyone know an undamaged one won't be passed as new? I am working with a dealer on an incoming white ZL1 just like the one in the pic.

I’m on the inside job line of thought to. They must’ve brought gas to as I assume they barely had enough in them to get to the freeway much less try and run from the cops. If it isn’t an inside job……..that is almost unbelievably bad/lax security.
I’m not sure how OnStar works but wouldn’t they need to know the VIN of each car to shut them down? I’m assuming those weren’t readily available in the time this all went down. |

Look at it this way...say some person stole these vehicles, went down the road, struck a vehicle with a family inside and killed them all. Or plowed into a bunch of pedestrians. How could it possibly be that hundreds of events occurred in the perfect sequence allowing several people to get onto the property, break into the plant, obtain the keys, the vehicles all just happen to be ready and road worthy, then after finding the keyfobs, start the cars and get them off the property and onto the roadways...all before police could respond? LOL, if I get too close to an ice cream store around the corner from me I swear the cops will be there before I could recite the alphabet. I worked at a video store once and I had only a few seconds between unlocking and opening the door and making it to the back of the store to type in the key code before the alarm went off...and there were a few times that I didn't make it before the alarm went off. And this was back in 2001. So 2 decades later and you're telling me some random thieves accomplished this type of Oceans 12 level feat involving moving vehicles that weigh over 2 tons out of a facility and then just decided "hey, let's go for a joyride"...?? If that was all they wanted to do then they could have just went during business hours at a dealership and asked for a test drive. I mean who plans this type of heist this thoroughly without an endgame and then just goes running from the cops? |

The VIN should already be assigned since that includes the plant where the vehicle was manufactured...and since many people do Museum Delivery of Vettes, that indicates that the VIN is attached on the assembly line. These are assumptions so I could be wrong. If that is the case, then the VIN would be reported and most likely the vehicle will not ever be available for sale considering it would have to be reported to DMV and they would be responsible for deeming the vehicle as safe. Even if it was undamaged I would assume that this would be reported by the authorities since they have to put the VIN in their reports. I would think that something as significant as a vehicle being stolen and led on a high speed chase during a heist is something that would have to be documented and disclosed to a potential buyer. Or it would be used as official evidence so it won't necessarily be available for sale. I wouldn't worry about that if I were you.

I’m guessing they did have some sort of an end game, it didn’t go to plan and was interrupted by the cops, so not all were in on it if it was an inside job. |

Inside job? Possible, plans, if they were somewhat
Professional, they would have enclosed trailers Offsite, they were 20 year olds, more likely they were Out for a wild joyride, with a possible “ Rip & Strip” Until the LEO’s interrupted. |

So I'm just curious, what will happen to those cars that were stolen, lets say the cops were able to recover a vehicle that was NOT damaged at all. Will it just go to the customer delivered as is? Generally, a stolen vehicle has its title branding changed, it would be equivalent to a salvage title...but in this case since the car was never registered...
