Weird brown liquid covering paint after track day at COTA
I was washing my car today after having just returned from COTA but there is some brownish residue on the car that’s very difficult to remove. It looks like some type of liquid. I know it’s from the track because there is no residue in the area where the decal was. Any ideas? See the pic.
Posting it here vs the Car maintenance area as some of you who have been to COTA may know as well? Thanks, Tom |

It looks like you may have been misted by doing some laps following a car with an oil blow of some kind. If that's the case it is odd that you didn't have an indication on your windscreen. If a rear inner axle seal is going on a Corvette, for example, it will mist down low on a following car. Ask Randy Pobst how it feels in a C5 Corvette when he's doing hot laps and the seal coats the L rear tire.

i've also had some very difficult to remove residue on my white car after a rainy track day. i thought more about it and it could've been from fresh asphalt that also had some tar water kick up on the drive there or back. in the end i used a clay bar and lots of elbow grease to get it off. good luck.

Thanks for the responses - yes, there was some rain and I think it's from the track itself as the front bumper is fine. The residue is only on the sides of the car.
I'll give the clay bar a shot. |

I appreciate the conversation and thoughts.
I did a wet skid pad the other weekend and I have some residue that isn't coming off with the usual car wash soap. Was hoping to not have to clay it. Oh well. |

What brake pads are you running?
That’s fairly common if you are using Hawks.

Get an all purpose cleaner and spray it. Let it dwell for a bit and then use wash mitt with car soap to agitate. Rinse and repeat If needed
Meguiars all purpose cleaner is great...i. An spray it on dried road black tar and it will simply wipe off Sent from my moto g(7) power using Tapatalk

my tires had fluid leaking out after my first track day. it was running down the side walls about 2" by 2". wonder if it was tire lube when they were mounted and it melted out.
