Anybody On Here Do JUST a Ported Blower/TB?
Like the title says. Has anyone on here done just a ported blower and throttle body without anything else? Based on these two videos, it seems some decent gains are to be had by simply porting the blower, even without a tune. It would be nice to hear from an owner that has actually done this rather than a shop.

I wouldn’t do it without a tune.

Yes, members here have done this and gained approx. 40 hp. I do not believe a larger TB is necessary for this build (my OEM TB made 725 wheel), but an updated tune is highly recommended.

When it comes to the stock blower my thoughts are this. If you are positively, absolutely, 100%, without a single doubt sure that you will be satisfied with the results from modding the stock blower (pulley, porting), then go right ahead and enjoy it. However, if you think for even a second that you will want more power, then do not touch the stock blower. Save up and upgrade to an aftermarket system.
Now the reason I say this is because in the past, there have been many people who have gone this route...they went with modding the stock blower and then swapping to a different one. End of the trail after looking over everything they all said the same thing...that the stock blower had cooling issues, was limited in power/potential, etc. And they all said that they wished they switched to a different blower before they spent all the money they spent modding the stock one. so just spreading that general idea from those who have gone this route, if you think you will want more, then just do it all the right way the first time and upgrade the blower. Now if you are sure about upgrading the stock blower then there are several companies that offer good prices for going that route. Some are more popular than others but they all have roughly the same prices and results. I suggest you do some intense research, speak to some of the more qualified members on here who can explain exactly what you will be dealing with if you stick with the stock blower vs upgrading, and then make an informed decision based on your desires and what each route has to offer. Whichever route or vendor you go with, good luck. |

I was under the impression that you had a GT500 also based on your avatar. Yea the Shelby is a really awesome car. It has tons of top end power and pulls like a monster up top. I was actually able to get mine for under $90K believe it or not. But mine is used so that might be why. All the new ones are selling for over MSRP. At best you can get a used one with very low miles at original MSRP. It is worth it tho for this car!! |

Well, for a "Furd" Shelby GT500 with a supercharged 760 HP engine, 7sp DCT, and comparably equipped to the ZL1 and HC RE. The HC RE is pretty much over $90K and when I optioned one out the way I'd like it, the price was actually $98K. So to get a GT500 that has similar features, is similar in the quarter mile, handles better, and retains it's value, to me that's a good deal. But to each their own. Once you own multiple platforms of high performance cars you will know more about them and be better able to compare how they are.

But the GT500 is also a very awesome and powerful and fun to drive car. You can't go wrong either way if you ask me. |

For 70k the ZL1 is really hard to beat, I feel great about driving it as it won't cost me 20 grand in pretend inflation value if I put some miles on it. With a couple mods it really wakes up and of course with a lot of mods it can make 1000 just like the GT500. I don't miss the GT500 one single bit and I enjoy driving the ZL1 quite a lot. It has its own advantages vs the GT500 also, just not sound/performance type of things. More like intangibles. It really reminds me of a 4 seater version of my Z06's but also doesn't handle as squirrely either. It's an awesome street car. |
